CARS 25 LAP FEATURE Dewease Sails at Port Royal 7-9-05 Port Royal, Pa Lance Dewease won his first Aumiller & Associate Sprint Car feature of the season Saturday night July 9 at Port Royal, PA Speedway. Dewease said the season has been all about having fun again and that car owner Pete Postupak takes everything in stride. " Even when we were in Florida and didn't make the race, Pete and I stood along the fence and watched. We were laughing. I have to thank my owner, and sponsors, " continued Dewease, " We have everything we need and we're having fun. This race track was great tonight. It's been great the last four or five times we've raced here. I left for a couple weeks before but it's great since I've been back." The event turned into an Enduro race taking one hour and forty five minutes to complete. Four red flags stopped action with three of them happening in the first ten laps. The most serious crash of the night was for Vince Snyder of Lewistown on lap twenty one. Snyder was transported to Harrisburg Hospital with injuries to both legs. Justin Seigler led the first lap before giving way to DeWease in turn one. Seigler crashed hard into the turn one fence on lap two and flipped destroying his sprinter. Seigler was not hurt. Judi Bates hit Seigler while he was upside down on the speedway and was also towed from the track. Joey Hershey and newcomer Chris Meleason made contact with each other in turn four on lap nine. Both cars were upside down again stopping action. No one was hurt. Todd Shaffer, fresh off last weeks Speedweek victory, blew a left rear tire on lap ten and flipped in turn two. His Beam Racing no. 88 was heavily damaged. Shaffer was not injured. Four other caution periods for spin outs and mechanical problems slowed the race. Finishing behind DeWease was Mike Wagner who started tenth and finished second. Craig Keel was third with Alan Cole fourth. Mark Smith finished fifth. Smith had been second when the race was stopped on lap twenty one. His car suffered a flat tire which forced him to restart on the rear. Completing the top ten were Keith Kauffman, Kevin Nouse, Dave Hahn, Daryl Stimeling and Clark Simonton. Heats were won by Seigler, Jimmy Callahan and DeWease. Shaffer Wins at Port Royal

Smith came home the winner over Vince Snyder of Strodes Mills. Race fans greeted Smith with mixed enthusiasm in the winners circle. " When they're booing, you must be doing something", joked Smith. " I just want to thank my team and crew. John & Pee Zematis give us everything we need." Zematis stated after the race, " this is by far the best team I've ever had. They have good chemistry. Our set ups are good. Thanks to Hoosier Tires and Penske Shocks." The race track surface was outstanding and drivers were pleased after the show. Very few yellows slowed the nights events. 30 LAP SPRINT CAR CHAMPIONSHIP Mark Smith Wins Second Of Season At Port Royal May 29, 2005 Port Royal, PA Mark Smith won the 25 lap Aumiller & Associate Sprint Car feature Saturday night May 28 at Port Royal (PA) Speedway. It was Smith's second win of the season aboard the Zemco Speed Equipment no. 1. The Tower City, PA resident praised his car owner and crew in post race comments. " I have the best crew here", began Smith. " I need to thank all my sponsors, crew and owner", he continued. " We made the right choice to come here. We called all afternoon and were thinking of going to Hagerstown tonight. We figured they, (Port Royal Speedway) would cancel early but when they said they were racing we decided to come here and I'm glad we did." The event took nearly one hour to complete and was red flagged two times for flips. Rod Stroup of Evandale started second and led the first four laps. The race was caution flagged at that point for Justin Seigler who stopped on the frontstretch. Seigler restarted the event and ran four additional laps before being leaving the track with mechanical problems. Daryl Stimeling of Lewistown stopped in turn one at the same time and restarted completing twenty one laps. Upon restarting, the race was immediately stopped for Todd Shaffer of Millerstown who flipped the Beam Racing/Village Square Plaza no. 88 in the middle of turns three & four. Shaffer would eventually repair his car and return four laps down. He was credited with finishing thirteenth. The race resumed with Stroup the leader. Stroup was followed by last weeks winner Judi Bates of Spring City and Kevin Nouse of Mechanicsburg. The trio encountered heavy lapped traffic on lap eight and Stroup narrowly avoided disaster on the back stretch. Stroup was forced to check up and slow to avoid running over a lapped car and lightly made contact with it while continuing on. Bates was not as fortunate and ran over the back end of the car flipping hard. Nouse and Smith narrowly missed being involved in the accident. Smith said, " I feel bad for Judi. You come up on lapped cars here pretty quick. We were all almost wiped out in that deal." Knouse grabbed the lead on the restart and Smith moved to second spot. The race was slowed on lap eleven for Vince Snyder who had front end suspension problems and was towed from the speedway. The final caution came on lap nineteen when Stroup stopped in turn two ending his night. He was scored fifteenth. Smith chased Nouse through the field until lap eighteen when he got the lead. Nouse stayed close in lapped traffic but Smith was able to open up his lead with a clear track ahead. At the finish Smith and Nouse were followed by Mike Wagner of Harrisonville, PA, Keith Kauffman of Mifflintown and Rick Lafferty of Pennington, NJ. Completing the top ten were Craig Keel, Jimmy Callahan, Curt Stroup, Randy Baughman and Joey Hershey. Heats were won by Wagner and Stroup. Kauffman Leads All the Way at Port Royal 4-16-05 The man from Mifflintown returned to Victory Lane Saturday night April 16 at Port Royal, PA Speedway. Keith Kauffman won the 25 lap Aumiller & Associate Sprint Car feature before a large crowd. Kauffman started on the pole and led the entire way to earn his first win of the season at the Juniata County oval. Kauffman enjoyed a great weekend having also won the night before at William's Grove. The veteran driver credited off season changes in his team for his success. " We have some new guys and things are starting to come around pretty good." stated Kauffman. " It's good to be here, " he continued, We're getting things rolling." As was the case opening night with winner Mark Smith, Kauffman's mount was developing problems as the race went on. " I was losing the power steering and the car was hard to steer." said the winner. Kauffman dominated the event which included several cautions for spins and two red flag stops for flips. The first came with fourteen laps complete. Lucas Wolfe of Mechanicsburg got upside down for the second night in a row. The crash came exiting turn four. Wolfe was not hurt. His Allebach Racing/E & G Classics no. 5w received extensive damage. Mark Smith dumped the Zemco Speed Equipment no. 1 in turn two with twenty three laps complete. The Tower City driver was ok. Both Todd Shaffer and Lance Dewease had a shot at wrestling the lead from Kauffman. Shaffer was second in Gary & Patty Beam's, Village Square Plaza no. 88 during the first half of the race. As the pair raced through lapped traffic Shaffer closed the gap and fans expected a classic shoot out between the veteran stars. Wolfe's crash interrupted the battle and after the restart Dewease managed to get by Shaffer and briefly challenged Kauffman. The lap twenty three restart bunched the field on Kauffman's rear bumper but Kauffman drove away to a comfortable win. Following Kauffman and Dewease was Rick Lafferty in third spot. Shaffer was fourth and Mike Wagner finished fifth. Completing the top ten were Mike Erdley, Kevin Nouse, Alan Cole, Craig Keel and Daryl Stimeling. Heats for the 24 car field were won by Shaffer and Smith. T he Central PA 305 Sprint Cars made their first visit of the season. Brent Comp won the 20 lap feature after taking the lead on lap nine. Comp was not challenged and won by a big margin over Casey Cook. Michael Wagner drove a nice race to finish third. Dusty Shatzer and Nathan Gramley completed the top five.
