Harrison Wins at Attica ATTICA, Ohio (Sept. 3, 2005) - Burgoon's Daivd Harrison scored the 410 feature victory, with Paul Weaver picking up his fourth win of the year in the Coors Light 305 sprints, and 66-year-old Art Ball taking the checkered flag in the limited late model main. Harrison led all 28 laps in the 410 sprints, but had to survive several cautions and a red, that nearly ended the night's racing when Danny Mumaw got over the front stretch wall, knocking out the track's lights. Thanks to track electrician Jerry Lowry, the lights came back on and the racing resumed. While Harrison banged off the deep cushion around the top side to build a big lead, the battle was fast and furious for second between Reed, John Ivy, Todd Kane, Keith Baxter and Craig Mintz. The first caution flew on lap four for a stalled Lee Jacobs. The running order was Harrison, Baxter, Ivy, Mike Brecht, Craig Mintz, Reed, Kane, Mark Keegan, Todd Heller, Mumaw and Mike Linder, up from 16th. On the restart, the car on the move was Mintz, as he moved arond Brecht and was challenging Ivy for third when the red flew on lap eight for Mumaw's tumble over the front stretch wall. On the restart, disaster struck for Mintz as he jumped the ledge in turn two and stalled for the caution. The running order was Harrison, Ivy, Baxter, Brecht, Reed, Keegan and Kane. Harrison again built a big lead on the restart. The action for second through sixth heated up over the next 14 laps until the caution would fly on lap 23 for a Mark Keegan spin. Harrison had a lapped car cushion over Ivy and Reed on the restart with five laps remaining and would cruise to the win. Ivy and Reed would battle hard for the runner-up spot, with Ivy getting the advantage at the checkered. Reed, Kane and Baxter would round out the top five. "We put in our old motor that we've won with before and it did the trick again," said Harrison beside his Doug Ludwig Motorsports #10 sponsored by Crown Battery, Fremont Federal Credit Union, Snyder's Floor Covering, B&S Construction. "This crew has worked hard in the garage the past month...we had to do our homework because Mike Linder has been waxing us." Reed, the 2003 Attica track championship, was satisfied with another title. "I love racing at Attica...you can drive hard here. I'm so proud of my family and crew...they work so hard on this," said Reed beside his Reebar Diecasting, ProShocks sponsored sprint car. "I'm so proud to run with this group of racers...they are some of the toughest in the country." Weaver bolted around front row starters Jed Prater and Coty Runion to grab the lead at the start of the Coors Light 305 sprint feature and led all 25 laps for his fourth victory of the season at Attica. The only caution would fly on lap 22 for a stalled Mark Whaley, which helped Weaver, who had gotten bottled up in lapped traffic, allowing Bryan Scott to close. Weaver would cruise the win over Scott, Andy Shammo, who nipped Runion for third, and Prater rounding out the top five. "It helps to start up front. I thought once I got into the lead I could cruise a little, but those lapped cars made me race hard," said Weaver besides his Ace Engines, Weaver-Coonce Construction sponsored sprinter. "I have to thank Dee Genzman...he owns all of this now, and my wife Andrea who was my only crew here tonight." Fostoria's Jamie Miller, who started the year winning the first six feature events at Attica, claimed the track's 2005 championship for the Coors Light 305 Sprints. "I've won a lot of races...more than I could have ever imagined. I never thought when we started this four years ago I'd win a track championship," said Miller beside his Rowmark Plastics, Mike's Speciality Canvas sponsored sprinter. "I have to thank my dad (Skip) and my entire family and crew for all the sacrifices they have made for me to race and have fun." 410 SPRINTS Budweiser Heat 1 (top 5 to A): 1. Craig Mintz (8s); 2. Chris Lang (18) Linder Sweeps Summer Nationals ATTICA, Ohio (Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005) - Everyone kept telling Mike Linder, "it's easy to win when you start up front. Wait until you get some competition." Well, the Fremont, Ohio driver, started up front Saturday against some of the best sprint car competition you'll find in the Midwest, and he proceeded to win $5,000 and sweep both nights of the first Attica Raceway Park Summer Nationals, having won the night before. Linder claimed his fourth straight win at Attica and his sixth of the year at the track, leading all 40 laps of the Budweiser Main Event to earn $5,000. "The guys kept ribbing me in the pits telling me, 'yeah, you've had it pretty easy...wait until that 15k car (three time and defending All Star champion Chad Kemenah) starts beside you. Well, Chad started outside of us in row one tonight. Not to sound cocky, or take anything away from Chad...he's one of the best in the country....but we beat him tonight," said Linder beside his Andy James Motorsports J&J sprinter. "I have to thank Andy James...he's the best owner in the world. He never questions anything we do and gives us everything we need to win." Coming into the weekend, Risingson's Mike Dussell seemed like a long-shot to win the 2005 Elwer Fence NRA 360 championship. But, the driver of the Tim Hogan's Dalton Georgia Carpet's sprint car proceeded to sweep the weekend's events, including leading all 30 laps of Attica's $1,500-to-win feature to claim the title. "No one gave us a shot to win this thing. Coming into the weekend we knew we had to win all of it to have a shot...this is incredible," said Dussell. "On that last restart, I knew David Harrison was behind me and I had to drive it perfectly or he'd get around me. This car just kept getting better the longer the race went." In the 410 sprint main, Linder, who started on the pole by virtue of accumulating the most points in his heat (points were awarded on where you finished and passing points, where he started sixth and finished second, earning 63 points, including 57 for second and sixth for passing four cars), got a good bite off the bottom of turn four, and jumped in front of Kemenah. Linder utilized the rim of the race track, but the caution would fly with one scored lap in, as Dean Jacobs spin in turn three. Linder built a big lead on the restart, only to see it wiped away on lap five for an Andrew Palker spin. Kemenah stayed within striking distance on the restart, with Brock Mayes, Mark Keegan and a fast closing Lee Jacobs in tow. Linder's advantage would disappear again on lap 11 for another yellow for Tim Hunter. When the green flag fell again, all eyes were on Byron Reed, who, for the second straight night, was making a charge from deep in the back, as he had moved from 19th to eighth. Just as Linder was getting into lapped traffic, allowing Kemenah to close on lap 17, the caution flew for a Jeremy Campbell spin. The running order at the halfway mark was Linder, Kemenah, Jacobs, Mark Keegan, Mayes and Reed. The caution would fly for the final time on lap 29, for debris on the track - the left rear shock of Reed, religating him to the tail and ending his great run. Linder set sail on the restart and seemed to have the race in control. But, a slip up in turn two on lap 32 nearly proved costly to Linder, as he jumped the cushion, allowing Kemenah to move beside him. Linder regained his composure and moved into a big lead which he held to the checkered flag. Kemenah was second for the second straight night, followed by Mayes, Keegan and Dale Blaney. "Boy, I about gave that one away when I drove'er in too hard. I have to thank Janet Holbrook (Attica promoter) for running this deal. And how about the efforts of Jeff Potts (race director), Gene Frankart and all the track crew who worked their tails off to give us a great race track tonight. They got a lot of rain here this afternoon, and this place was smooth and racey," said Linder. "Luck is just falling our way. Just as we were about to get into lapped traffic, the caution would fall. If we don't win another race all year, I'll fell as though I had the greatest season of my life." In the NRA 360 sprints, Tim Allison brought a 15-point lead in the championship hunt into the night's races. Darren Long and Dussell, who had picked up the win the night before at Lima, were tied for second. Dussell jumped into the lead from his pole staring spot and held on over several restarts for the win and the championship. David Harrison, who was pulling double duty, running both the 410 sprint and 360 sprint, settled for second, with Attica 305 sprint regular Chris Andrews third, Mike Brecht - who was also driving both a 410 and 360 sprint - fourth, and 305 sprint regular Paul Weaver making his way from 17th up to fifth. 410 Super Sprints (Heats paid 60 points to win, 57 points for second, 54 points for third and a three point breakdown after. Also, drivers earned 1.5 points for every position they advanced from their original starting spot. The top 16 in points following the heats were locked into the A-main with the top point man starting pole and so on.) Heat 1 - Budweiser 1. X-Mark Keegan; 2. 3L-Mike Linder; 3. 29-Dean Jacobs; 4. (Friday, Aug. 26, 2005) - "Luck is when opportunity meets
preparation" Linder Stays Hot at Attica ATTICA, Ohio (Friday, Aug. 19, 2005) - Mike Linder still has to pinch himself. The Fremont, Ohio driver is living a dream this season, as he dominated the Mid-American Sprint Series field at Attica Raceway Park Friday for his fourth win of the season at "Ohio's Finest Friday Night Racing" venue. He has also scored four wins at Fremont Speedway in 2005. "I've said it after every feature, but I mean it...I can't believe we are doing this," said Linder beside his Andy James Motorsports sprinter. "It helps to start up front, and I got a good run on Chad (Blonde) on the start and got to the high side. It looked like in the B the track was taking rubber in some spots up top and I knew I had to get there before Byron (Reed) or I wasn't going to win." Fostoria's Scott Kraylek traded slide jobs with Andy Shammo on a restart with five laps to go in the Coors Light 305 sprints and went on to claim the victory. "It's about time...we've been second so many times this year," said Kraylek beside his RDB, Beckensun Trucking sponsored car. "I hated to slide Andy like that, but that's for the win...you do what you have to do. I have to thank O'Flaherty Racing Engines...if it weren't for that guy I probably wouldn't be racing. "We've worked so hard over the past few years to get here," said Warnick. "Wow, that was fun...it feels so good to finally get one." "This Clouse Construction Pierce Engineering crew worked so hard to rebuild this thing after we destroyed it at Fremont awhile back...we're finally figuring it out," said Ball who has, as he described it, "something like 270 feature victories" in his career. In the Mid-American Sprint Series 30-lap main, Linder jumped into the lead from his pole starting spot, Blonde, fast qualifier Bobby Clark and five-time Attica winner Byron Reed in tow. Reed would move into third on lap five and challenge Blonde for second. Linder would fly around the top rim of the track and build a sizeable lead when he hit lapped traffic by the seventh circuit. Eight laps into the race, Clark started to make his move, going around Blonde and Reed into second. The first and only caution flew on lap 22, with Linder holding a three-lapped-car cushion over Clark, Reed, Andrew Palker and Bryan Scott. Linder would set sail on the restart and win easily over Clark, Reed, Lee Jacobs and Mark Keegan. "These J&J's are pretty good race cars. I see one finished second. You had better get one if you're going to win around here," said Linder of his Beaverdam Contracting sponsored #3. "My brother took over crew chief duties a couple of weeks ago...he hadn't really been around these things for awhile and he's learned a lot very quickly," said Clark of his second place run. In the Coors Light 305 sprint main, Andy Shammo jumped into the lead from his pole starting spot while Mark Lang, Scott Kraylek and Paul Weaver battled for second. Kraylek avoid disaster halfway through when a car tried to get off the track right in front of him, forcing Kraylek to drive on the outside horse track, losing valuable ground. He would race his way around Lang just as the caution flew with five laps remaining, setting up the dramatic five-lap shoot out. Kraylek would win ove Shammo, Weaver, Lang and Chris Andrews. In the Coors Light 305 sprints, last season's co-rookie of the year Kevin Lee scored his first career feature win in the make-up main from the July 8 rain-out. Fremont's Paul Weaver cruised to the win in the regular portion of the 305 program, his third of the season at Attica. In the 410 main, Linder bolted into the lead on the high side from his outside front row starting spot, with All Star regular Jeremy Campbell in tow. However, action would be halted on lap three for a Chad Blonde flip in turn two. Blonde was fine and on the restart Linder jumped back into a commanding lead with Campbell and Lee Jacobs falling in line. Just as Linder would build a comfortable lead, the caution would fly on lap eight. All eyes were on five-time Attica winner Byron Reed, who had moved from his 21st starting spot to ninth. Linder again set sail on the high side on the restart, building a big lead over Campbell, Jacobs, Tim Hunter and Brandon Martin. Not much changed up front, but with five laps to go, Linder struggled a little in lapped traffic, allowing Campbell to close. Now the attention was focused on Dean Jacobs, who moved around his nephew Lee to take third and utilizing the bottom groove, closed on the two leaders. As Linder took the white flag, Campbell was on his bumper, with Jacobs powering off the bottom of turn two to within a car length of both. Linder was patient following a lapped car and went on to score his third win of the year at ARP. Campbell would hold on to second, with Dean Jacobs third, Lee Jacobs fourth and Mark Keegan rounding out the top five. Reed's fine run would net him a sixth place finish. "We're on a roll right now and I'm going to enjoy it because I've been around this sport long enough to know the bottom will eventually fall out," said Linder beside his Andy James Motorsports/Beaverdam Contracting #3. "Last year we couldn't buy a win...even if it was a video game. Everybody has just worked so hard in the shop and it's paying off. It helps to start up front when you have competition like this." Green Springs' Kevin Lee started the night by claiming his first career Coors Light 305 sprint feature which was a make-up from the rained out July 8 program. Last week's first-time feature winner A.J. Sleek jumped into the lead at the drop of the green from his pole position, with Paul Weaver jumping into second and Lee in third. Lee got around Weaver on lap 14 and moved in on Sleek. Sleek slide off the high side of turn two on lap 16, opening the door for Lee. Sleek would come back to challenge Lee the last six laps, but couldn't get around the youngster who would score the victory over Sleek, Scott Kraylek, Andy Shammo (up from 13th) and Jamie Miller. "We worked hard on that one...that was some great racing," said Lee beside his Rohde Sandblasting sponsored #02. "I have to thank my dad and stepmom for putting all the money in this thing. I can't believe we finally won one of these...now I want a lot more." In the regular portion of the Coors Light 305 sprint program, Weaver made it look easy, driving away from the competition on several restarts to claim his third win of the year over Sleek, Bryan Scott, Jamie Miller (up from 11th) and Coty Runion. "We had a tire go down in the first feature...I really wanted to win both of these tonight. I have to thank Dee Genzman...he owns this thing, and Dennis Levell of Ace Engines...he builds a great motor," said Weaver beside his Weaver-Koonce Construction sponsored #1. 410 sprint results: Budweiser Heat 1: 1. Fremont's A.J. Sleek held off a last lap charge from Paul Weaver to score his first career feature win in the Coors Light 305 sprints. "We just put this deal together a few weeks ago and everything just seemed to click," said Palker of his new ride in the S&L Farms sponsored K car. "I have to thank Scott and Lucretia Kirian for allowing me to drive their car. This is just an incredible feeling." Palker jumped into the lead from his pole starting spot, and built up a sizeable lead. However, cautions would put first Mike Linder, then Byron Reed on his tail the closing laps, with Reed showing Palker the nose of his car the last two laps. Palker wasn't rattled and held on for the win over Reed, 11th starting John Ivy, Linder and 10th starting Brandon Martin. In the Holiday Inn Express of Tiffin feature, 12-time Attica track champion Mark Keegan jumped into the early lead from his outside front row starting spot, with David Harrison right in his tire tracks. Soon Dean Jacobs got in the mix along with Reed. Reed drove to the high side of Keegan on a restart with six laps remaining to take the lead and the win. Keegan would ride home second with 11th starting Chad Blonde third, Harrison fourth and Jacobs rounding out the top five. "When Mark went low on the last restart, I knew I had a shot at him," said Reed beside his Reebar Diecasting sprinter. "I love this track. It was really racey tonight. You had to be on the gas and have your elbows up every lap." In the Coors Light 305 sprint main, Sleek shot into the lead from his pole starting spot, with Andy Shammo falling in behind. Sleek used the low groove to build a small lead, only to see it vanish under several cautions. After Shammo retired to the pits, Scott Kraylek put the pressure on Sleek, with 12th starting Paul Weaver using the very outside rim of the track to challenge. Weaver got around Kraylek with four laps remaining and pulled to the outside of Sleek exiting turn 2 on several occasions. As the two raced out of turn two on the final circuit, Sleek went high to block and Weaver cut low entering turn three, executing the classic slide job. However, Sleek diamonded off turn 4 and went on to edge Weaver for the win. Kraylek would come home third with Jamie Miller and Bryan Scott rounding out the top five. "Wow...I've never worked that hard in a race car. I have to thank my dad, my grandpa and Dennis Construction, Randy Beeker Excavating, KOT Trucking and all my great sponsors for sticking with me. We've been through a lot and to finally get a win...it's just awesome," said Sleek. "I want to dedicate this win to Jon Finsel and his family (driver of the #F1 410 sprint). They were in a bad car accident on the way over here tonight. Thankfully they weren't hurt...they're good people and I wished them the best," added Sleek who passed the post-race inspection. 410 Sprint Results: July 8 make-up A-main (28 laps) (starting position): 1. "I'm really happy with this win...the track slicked off and we haven't been that good so far when that happens," said Reed beside his Mopar powered, Reebar Diecasting sponsored JEI chassis. "Mike Linder showed me last week that you have to get up high...higher than I've been running, to get around here." Reed led all 28 laps from his pole starting position, lapping up to ninth place. Outside front row starter Lee Jacobs finished a comfortable second. The battle for third was torrid with Andrew Palker, Mike Linder and Craig Mintz mixing it up. Mintz would take third at the checkered, followed by Linder, Palker, Todd Kane, Mark Keegan, John Ivy, David Harrison and Matt Lucius Paul Weaver backed up last week's feature win by leading all 25 laps of the Coors Light 305 A-main. Scott Kraylek finished second, with Bryan Scott, Andy Shammo and Jamie Miller rounding out the top five. Ryan Lowe came home sixth followed by Roger Shammo, Dan Hammond, Stuart Brubaker and Brad Bowman. "It helps to start up front. The Fremont driver made the slide job stick in turns three and four on lap 16 to take the lead and he went on to the the win, his second 410 feature victory of the year at "Ohio's Finest Friday Night Racing." In the EFI/NRA 360 sprint main, Tim Hogan Dalton George Carpets' teammates Mike Brecht and Mike Dussell put on a thrilling duel that saw Brecht edge Dussell by a nose wing for the victory. Fremont's Paul Weaver finally dethroned Jamie Miller in the 305 Coors Light Sprints, leading all 25 laps for the victory. Miller had won eight in a row at ARP, dating back to the last two shows of 2004, shutting everyone else out of victory lane until tonight. "I tried the slide job a lap earlier and I was too slow and Byron got back around me. I knew I only had one more chance against someone like him to make it work so I carried a little more speed into the corner and it stuck," said Linder beside his Beaverdam Contracting/Andy James Motorsports sprinter. "My brother Steven and my dad (Jim Linder) and Cody White and everyone who helps on this thing have made it so fast...I don't think I've gotten that much better driving it, the car has just been awesome." Reed and Ricky Ferkel led the field to the green, with Reed bolting to the top edge to hold the lead. The Monclova driver maintained his lead through two cautions on lap 2 and lap 7, while Linder, who started third began hounding him. Linder followed right in Reed's tire tracks as Greg Wilson moved from 10th to third by lap 14. Linder made his winning move on lap 16, while Reed and Wilson swapped second back and forth. With five laps to go, Linder was following three lapped machines who were racing side by side, allowing Wilson to close. But Linder maintained his momentum and went on to the win on Comfort Keepers of Tiffin Night. Reed came back to take second, followed by Wilson, Dean Jacobs, David Harrison, Mark Keegan (up from 14th), Brandon Martin; John Ivy (up from 12th), Bobby Clark (up from 16th) and Mike Brecht. In the NRA 360 main, Belle Center's Jeff Williams jumped into the early lead, with Cory Seeling and David Harrison in tow. Williams slid off the banking in turn two midway in the race, as did Harrison, handing the lead to Brecht. But, all eyes were on Risingsun's Dussell, who was one of the few cars to utilize the bottom groove. Dussell temporarily took the lead when the white flag flew, but Brecht made a spectacular move around a lapped car in turns one and two to stay on Dussell's bumper down the backstretch. The two raced side by side through three and four with Brecht just edging Dussell by a foot at the checkered. "Wow...that was exciting racing," said Brecht. "I've learned a lot about racing here through the 410 drivers...this is only about my fifth time ever at this track. It's good to have the Tim Dalton cars finish one and two." Behind Brecht and Dussell were Williams, Dustin Daggett, Harrison, Tim Allison, Tim Hunter, J.R. Stewart, Seeling and Dwain Leiber. In a crash-filled Coors Light 305 sprint main, Weaver led all 25 laps from his pole starting spot to claim the win over Chris Andrews, Ryan Lowe (up from 15th), Bryan Scott who came from the tail after an early race spint; Roger Shammo who also came from the tail after a mid-race spint, Andy Shammo (up from 25th), Greg Summit, Brad Bowman, Duane Zablocki and Bob Dawson. "It helps to start up front. I just had to stick to my line and stay out of trouble," said Weaver beside his Ace Engines, Weaver Koonce Construction sprinter. 410 Sprints (28 cars) Budweiser Heat 1 (top 5 to A): 1.
