Mark Keegan Wins Again at Fremont

8-14-04 John Ivy picked up his 5th fast time of the season and also had the fasted time of the year with at 12.05 second. The heat races went to Jason Dukes, Mark Keegan, Brandon Martin, and Caleb Griffth. The B-Main saw Lee Jacobs winning the 10-lap event. In the 30-lap feature event for the 410s, Mike Linder started on the front row with last week's feature winner on the outside and that was Mark Keegan.

Keegan jumped out into the lead on the first lap with Linder and Bobby Clark right in tow. Clark and Linder duked it out for a few laps and then points leader, John Ivy, got into the mix making it a 3 car battle for third. Linder was able to hold off the challenges of Clark and turned on the afterburners to catch the leader Keegan. The closest Linder was able to get was with about 5 laps to go when lapped traffic held up Keegan. Linder wasn't able to make the pass and Mark Keegan went on to win his second A-Main event in a row at Fremont Speedway. Second was Mike Linder, third was John Ivy, fourth was Bobby Clark, fifth was Greg Wilson, sixth, was Byron Reed, seventh was Andy James, eighth was Rodney Duncan, ninth was Todd Heller and rounding out the top ten was Keith Baxter.

Mark Keegan Fast at Fremont

FREMONT, Ohio (Aug. 7, 2004) - A few weeks ago, Mark Keegan had victory in sight and slipped off the fourth turn and had to settle for second. That was in the back of his mind as the laps ticked off Saturday at Fremont Speedway. He cautiously slid around turns three and four and took the checkered flag, his 57th career win at "The Track That Action Built."

"I had that one won a couple of weeks ago and I screwed up. I wasn't going to let that happen again. I was very careful the last few laps. I knew John Ivy was in second but I didn't see him, so I knew if I was careful I could hang on," said Keegan. "I'll tell you, racing with all these guys is a lot of fun. This is some of the toughest competition in the country. That's why a lot of guys won't come here... this place is tough."

At the drop of the green for the 30-lap Auto Value Bumper-To-Bumper A-main, Jason Dukes took the lead with Matt Lucius in tow. The first caution flew on lap 6 for a Bobby Clark and Troy Vaccaro spin. On the restart, Dukes lead over Todd Heller and Keegan, up from his 13th starting position. Dukes led until the side panel of his front wing flew off on lap 8, bringing out the caution for the debris and sending him to the tail. That put Heller on the point with Keegan and John Ivy, in a brand new Eagle chassis in third.

Keegan, aboard the Edward Jones Financial Services, PowerFlow Exhaust Systems #X, powered around Heller at the halfway point and went on to the victory. Ivy, Heller, Mike Linder, Brandon Martin, David Harrison, Craig Mintz, up from 20th, Troy Vaccaro, Bobby Clark and Alvin Roepke rounded out the top 10.

The 305 sprint feature was a dandy, with Fremont's Paul Weaver taking advantage of Bryan Sebetto's problems in lapped traffic to take the lead with two laps to go and going on to claim his fourth feature win of the season.

"We changed the motor and the car the last couple of weeks and it has been fast," said Weaver beside his Diet Pepsi, Strawberry Hill Convenience Store #1w. "I saw Bryan get bottled up in lapped traffic and I knew If I was patient I could get to him."

Dustin Keegan led the field to the green, with Mark Lang and Barry Cole in tow. By lap 4, Sebetto had moved into second from his eighth starting spot, with Weaver up to fourth from his seventh starting spot. Weaver moved around Lang for third the next go-round, with Sebetto taking the lead from Keegan on lap six. Weaver took second from Keegan on lap nine and watched Sebetto build a sizeable lead. However, with five laps to go, Sebetto got held up in lapped traffic, allowing Weaver to close. As the two went into turns three and four with two laps to go, Sebetto tried to get around a lapped machine on the bottom, and Weaver executed his winning move around the high side.

At the checkered it was Weaver, Sebetto, Brian Smith (up from 10th), Andy Shammo (up from 16th), Scott Miller, Bryan Scott (up from 15th), Ryan Lowe, Dustin Keegan, Chad Laux and Roger Shammo (up from 18th).

Chaney Beats Blaney in Fremont Classic Finish

FREMONT, Ohio (July31, 2004) - Rob Chaney pulled a bonzai move into turn three on the last lap to get around the lapped machine of Eric Rankin, as Dale Blaney tried to slingshot around the outside of both of them. As the large crowd got to their feet, Chaney held off Blaney, who did a 360 spin, to win the $5,000 Chuck Kear Memorial presented by Pepsi at Fremont Speedway Saturday.

Chaney, who started the evening by setting quick time, took the lead from Rankin on lap 23, and received constant pressure from Blaney who took second on lap 26. As the field entered lapped traffic on lap 29, Blaney pulled right on the rear bumper of Chaney. As Chaney and Blaney exited turn four on lap 41, Troy Vaccaro spun in front of them, nearly making contact with Blaney. The caution gave Chaney a clear track, and he built a four car length advantage until getting into lapped traffic with just three laps remaining, setting up the dramatic finish.

"Rankin got a little sideways in turn two on the last lap and messed my line up a little. I knew I had to drive it into three hard because the bottom was a little slick...if I could get back to the top I knew I could hold Dale off," said Chaney. "We've been on a roll the past month. I have to thank Stan Courtad and the entire crew. Stan gives us everything we need to win with and I'm glad I can finally start giving him the results he deserves."

Rankin led the field to green in the 50-lap feature, but the red flew when Shane Helms got upside down in turn three. Rankin again took the lead on the restart, with Caleb Griffith and Craig Mintz in the chance. The caution flew on lap three for a Jody Keegan spin, and again, Rankin took the lead on the restart. The red flew again on lap five for an Andrew Palker flip in turn two. On the restart, Blaney and Brandon Martin got together, with Martin's front end collapsing, with Jody Keegan colliding with Martin and getting on his side.

On the restart, Rankin held the lead, but was receiving serious challenges by Griffith and Mintz. The caution flew again on lap nine for a spinning Lee Jacobs. On the restart, Rankin held the point with Mintz now second, Chaney up to third, Todd Heller fourth and Griffith slipping back to fifth. The caution flew again on lap 14 for a Troy Vaccaro spin. Again on the restart, Rankin held the lead over Mintz, Chaney and now Blaney. Chaney moved around Mintz on lap 18 and started to put pressure on Rankin. Rankin and Chaney raced side by side for for several laps before Chaney took the lead on lap 23 with a low move out of turn two. Rankin and Blaney then battled for several laps for second, with Blaney taking the position on lap 26. The man on the move was Byron Reed, moving into fifth from his 20th starting position.

Chaney and Blaney entered lapped traffic on lap 29, when Vaccaro did his spin right in front the leaders. Chaney set sail on the restart, setting up the dramatic last lap race to the checkered.

Behind Chaney and Blaney at the checkered was Mintz, Reed, Bobby Clark, John Ivy, Mark Keegan, Todd Heller, David Harrison and Giffith.

The 305 sprints were split into two complete fields based on odds and evens in the point standings. Each group ran a 25-lap feature. Fremont's Paul Weaver took the lead from Mark Lang on lap 10 and went on to score his third feature win of the season in the Valleyview Health Care Center main. Jamie Miller was second with Bryan Sebetto third.

"The car was pretty good...I should have made some changes on the red. We've been up and down here the past month. So hopefully we can get on a roll now," said Weaver beside his Strawberry Hill Farm Market sprinter.

In the Steinle Family Dealerships A-main for the second half of the 305s program, Scott Miller, who started 12th, took the lead on lap 19 from Joe Laugherty and held on for his third feature win of the season over Laugherty and Bryan Scott who finished third after starting17th.

"I have to thank Shirley Kear. She put together a great giveaway package (worth over $21,000) for everyone tonight. She's been helping racers for as long as I can remember," said Miller beside his JD Automotive sprinter. "I have to thank my crew, they gave me a perfect race car tonight. I've run 410 sprints and now the 305s and I'll tell you this division is one of the toughest I've seen."

Fremont Speedway will be back in action Saturday, Aug. 7 with Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper Night featuring the 410 winged super sprints, 305 sprints and the Coors Light Dirt Trucks.

Clark Fast at Fremont

FREMONT, Ohio (July 24, 2004) - Bobby Clark has had an up and down season. The Fremont, Ohio driver finally put together a great feature run to pick up his first career 410 sprint victory on McDonald's Night at Fremont Speedway.

Clark, whose race car shop is right across the street from "The Track That Action Built," has won 17 feature events at Fremont over the years in 360 sprint racing. His 18th career win came aboard a 410 sponsored by Fremont Fence, KOT Trucking, B&L Plumbing and Jenny's Copper Penny.

"We struggled early this year. We crashed a car and we were pretty down. My crew chief Andy Potter kept telling me to be patient, that we'd be alright and we just kept getting better. Finally during Speedweek (Ohio All Star Sprint Speedweek), we put together some great runs (including a second at Fremont on July 1) and I got my confidence back," said Clark. "I have to thank all the guys on my crew and my mom and dad for putting this deal together."

Clark jumped into the lead from his outside front starting spot, with pole-sitter Troy Vaccaro trailing. The only caution of the 30-lap feature flew on lap two for a Lee Jacobs spin, with Clark, Vacarro and Mike Linder in the top three.

On the restart, Clark set sail with Vaccaro in second and a great battle for third between Linder and Todd Heller. Clark was into lapped traffic by lap nine, with Linder and Heller now battling Vaccaro for second. Linder got by Vaccaro on lap 12, with Heller following. Linder and Heller raced side by side for second for 10 laps while Clark was battling lapped traffic. Linder finally disposed of Heller and set his sights on Clark, who had lapped cars racing side by side when he saw the five-to-go signal. Linder closed to within three car lengths as they took the white flag. Clark followed the lapped traffic down the back stretch and into three and four, with Linder trying one last move to the high side as they exited turn fur for the checkered.

"The car got real loose at the end and I knew someone had to be coming. I think the car had a little left if I needed it at the end," said Clark.

Linder finished second for the fourth time this season, and took the point lead away from John Ivy. The night's fast qualifier, Rob Chaney, finished third, with Mark Keegan, Heller, Byron Reed (up from 14th), Ivy (up from 13th), Matt Lucius, Vaccaro and Rodney Duncan (up from 15th) rounding out the top 10.

Fremont's Brian Sebetto scored his second feature win of the season in the 305 sprints and his second win of the weekend, as he won Friday night at Lakeville Speedway competing against the more powerful 360 sprints.

The division's 2003 Rookie of the Year, Mike Riehl jumped into the lead from his pole-starting spot at the drop of the green, with the division's 2003 Most Improved Driver, Matt Ferrell in pursuit. Ferrell took the lead on the second lap, bringing Paul Weaver into second. Ferrell was into lapped traffic by lap 10 and that's when the action heated up.

Fourth starting Andy Shammo was battling Weaver for second, with Sebetto, who started sixth, and seventh starting Scott Miller battling for fourth. Weaver took second from Shammo and a lap latter the lead from Ferrell. Weaver held the lead until lap 16, when Sebetto drove around the high side of turn two to take the lead.

Sebetto drove away from the field to score his fourth career feature victory at Fremont. Shammo finished second, with Brian Smith coming on in the last four laps to take third after starting eighth. Miller would finish fourth followed by Weaver, Ferrell, Riehl, Dustin Keegan and Jamie Miller (up from 17th) to round out the top 10 in the non-stop 25-lapper.

"This has been a dream weekend," said Sebetto beside his Mominee Motorsports sprinter sponsored by Fort Ball Pizza Palace and the band pLOW. "My crew has been working their tails off and Daniel Smith has come on board to help set the car up and he's undefeated as a crew chief."

Mark Keegan First at Fremont

FREMONT, Ohio (July 10) - Mark Keegan was cruising toward his 57th career feature win at Fremont Saturday, but someone forgot to tell David Harrison. Keegan slipped off the top of turn four with two laps remaining, allowing
Harrison to duck under for the lead and the win.

"I didn't think I had a chance...Mark has so many laps around Fremont and he was so good in lapped traffic," said Harrison beside his Ludwig Motorsports #10 carrying Crown Battery and Fremont Federal Credit Union sponsorship. "I had to keep my composure those last two laps because I knew Mark would fight back."

And fight back he did, showing Harrison the nose of his #X car as they entered turn three on the final lap. Harrison cruised around the top to score the win.

At the drop of the green for the 30-lap Schiets Motors Honda-Yamaha feature, Harrison jumped into the lead with Keegan in tow. They set a blistering pass, lapping cars by the fourth lap. Keegan snuck around Harrison on the ninth go-round.

The first caution flew on lap 10 for a John Ivy 360 spin. The man on the move was Bobby Clark who was up to third on lap 12 from his fifth starting spot. The caution bunched up the field on lap 15 for Andy James who hit the soft walls in turn two. That proved to help Keegan who was mired in lapped traffic, allowing Harrison to close. Keegan set sail on the restart and looked to have the feature in hand, picking his way through lapped traffic with the precision of a surgeon, setting up the late-race drama.

Harrison ducked under Keegan who slid off the top of turn four with two laps to go and held on for his second feature win of the season at "The Track That Action Built." Keegan finished second with eighth starting Mike Linder third.

Fremont's Paul Weaver drove his Diet Pepsi, Strawberry Hill Convenience Store #1w into the lead with a bonsai move through turns three and four on lap 15 and went on to score his second 305 sprint feature win of the season.

"I saw Mark Keegan and David Harrison up top and figured it was the fast way around....I don't think I got as high as them...I was leary of driving off the top," said Weaver. "I knew that 20x car (Brian Smith) would be coming again. I had my wife telling me I had a big lead on the back stretch and another person telling me to stand on it...I didn't know who to believe so I just drove it as hard as I could."

At the drop of the green for the 25-lap Schiets Motors A-Main, Bellevue's Keith Whaley jumped into the lead. He held the lead until lap 8 when Willie Keegan went around him to take the top spot. Keegan maintained the lead until Weaver executed his winning pass on lap 15.

At the checkered it was Weaver (who scored his seventh career Fremont victory), Smith, up from 11th, and Willie Keegan.

Harrison Hurries to Fremont Win

FREMONT, Ohio -- David Harrison received a huge confidence boost and a lot of momentum heading into the Ohio Sprint Speedweek, by posting his fourth career victory at Fremont Speedway Saturday on Burger King Night. Scott Miller held on for the win in the 305 sprint feature, while Joe Hartlaub scored his first ever feature victory in the Coors Light Dirt Trucks.

Harrison, from Burgoon, Ohio, took the lead on the eighth lap and never looked back to score the win.

"We were just terrible here a few weeks ago and I hated it because it was on Crown Battery Night and they are one of my big sponsors," said Harrison beside his Ludwig Motorsports sprinter. "I have to thank the Ludwigs for giving me the opportunity to race and win every week. My crew - Bill, Jamie and everyone - works so hard on this thing and I'm glad I could finally give them a win this year. Boy, when you can beat Mark Keegan, Byron Reed and John Ivy, you've done something."

Shane Helms jumped into the early lead from his pole starting spot. He battled with third starting Harrison for the first handful of laps, and then Harrison took the lead on the eighth circuit. Mark Keegan moved around Helms a lap later but couldn't track down Harrison who expertly picked his way through lapped traffic. Keegan had to hold off challenges for the runner-up spot from defending track champion Byron Reed and three-time Fremont feature winner John Ivy, who worked his way up from a ninth starting spot.

The field slowed only once in the 30-lap event, a spin by Lee Jacobs on lap 26. Harrison had a cushion of three lapped cars between he and Keegan on the restart and cruised to the win. Keegan was second for the second time this week (he finished second Tuesday at Attica Raceway Park), followed by Ivy, Reed, Bobby Clark, Matt Lucuis (up from 14th starting spot), Mike Linder, Todd Heller (up from 18th starting spot), Alvin Roepke (up from 15th starting spot) and Craig Mintz.

Fifty 305 sprints jammed the pit area Saturday and what a show they put on. At the drop of the green in the 25-lap non-stop feature, Bellevue, Ohio's Keith Whaley jumped into the lead, only to see rookie driver Greg Summit (the 2003 Dirt Truck Track Champion), take the top spot in turns one and two on the second lap. Summit and Barry Cole battled for the lead while Columbus, Ohio's Scott Miller had worked his way up from ninth, to take the second spot on lap 15. Miller got under Summit for the lead on lap 16, while Brian Smith had worked his way from 18th starting spot to take second on lap 21. As Miller battled lapped traffic, Smith worked up to his rear bumper as they took the white flag. Smith pulled beside Miller through turns three and four, but Miller's momentum on the high side of the track propelled him to his seventh career Fremont victory.

"I got behind the lapped cars and they were doing a good job of holding their line....I just couldn't get around them. I knew Brian had to be coming....he's really been racing hard this year," said Miller beside his J.D. Automotive sprinter. "I have to thank the Deel family for allowing me to drive their car. This is such a tough division and they give me the best equipment to race with."

Behind Miller and Smith at the checkered were Bill Kraylek, Summit, Andy Shammo, 20th starting Ryan Lowe, Cole, Willie Keegan, Brian Sebetto and Lee Potter who came out of a two-year retirement to round out the top 10.

Reed Romps at Fremont

FREMONT, Ohio (June 12, 2004) - Byron Reed picked up his first feature win of the season, leading all 30 laps at Fremont Speedway in the 410 feature Saturday. Fremont's Brian Sebetto had a clean-sweep of the 305 sprints, winning his heat, the Computer Man Dash and the 25-lap feature. Fostoria's Rex Wright scored his first feature win of the season in the Coors Light Dirt Trucks.

Reed, who started on the pole, jumped into the early lead and survived several yellows and a red (for Andrew Palker who was unhurt), to score his eighth career Fremont victory on Crown Battery Night.

"I was able to roll through the ruts in turn two and keep the car from getting unhooked," said Reed, Fremont's 2003 track champion. "We've struggled here this year, so we needed this. The track was lightening fast, so it's a little easier when you start up front." Reed missed out on a $1,000 bonus offered by Crown Battery to the feature winner if he had a Crown Battery sticker on his car.

"I looked all over for a sticker when we got here. I have to thank Crown Battery for all they do... they are great race sponsors," said Reed beside his Reebar Diecasting sprinter.

Behind Reed was perennail runner-up Mike Linder, current point leader John Ivy, Dean Jacobs and fast qualifier Rob Chaney.

Sebetto took the lead from Willie Keean early in the 305 sprint feature and held off Brian Smith late in the race to pick up his third career feature at Fremont.

Sebetto picked up a $500 bonus from Crown Battery for having one of their stickers on the car, for a total payday of $1,000 for his win.

"I lost the rigth front torsion arm with about 10 laps to go and it was a bear to handle. I knew I had to work hard when I looked on the scoreboard and saw the 20 car behind me.... Brian is tough to beat," said Sebetto beside his Fort Ball Pizza Palace/Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken sprinter. "I have to thank the Mominees for giving me such a great race car. They give me everything I want to go racing with."

Behind Sebetto at the finish were Smith, Bill Kraylek, Jamie Miller, up from 20th, and Roger Shammo, who came from the back after an early race spin.

Rex Wright held off several challenges by veteran Art Ball and Brian Arnold to score his second career Fremont victory in the Coors Light Dirt Trucks.

"That was a lot of fun. Art and I raced side by side for a lot of laps. Art has more wins here than anyone, so you can't pull anything on him. We raced each other clean and tough," said Wright.

Behind Wright, who earned a $500 bonus for having a Crown Battery sticker on his truck, were Ball, Dan Roepke, Bobby Davis and Andy Maynard.

Ivy Wins at Fremont

FREMONT, Ohio (June 5, 2004) - Fremont's John Ivy gave himself a great 35th birthday present Saturday at Fremont Speedway - a $3,000 feature win on Beck Oil/Willie's Sales & Service Toro Lawn Mower Night.

Ivy, a two-time Fremont Speedway track champion, scored his third win of the young season, and his 20th career victory to move him into a tie for 18th on the all-time feature win list at "The Track That Action Built."

"The guys had this car perfect tonight. We've found something here for the middle of the track and so far no one can touch it," said Ivy standing beside his Sid and Beth Eickelberry Eagle with Kistler power. "We had a great weekend...two third places at Attica last night and a win tonight."

"It's great to win when Willie's Toro sponsors the race...I used to work there. I think I've won everytime they sponsor the races," said Ivy.

The 30-lap, non-stop feature saw Kyle Sauder on the pole, with Greg Wilson to start to the outside. However, Wilson's Hampshire #63 pushed off and then went pitside with engine problems, moving Mike Linder into the front row.

Sauder jumped into the lead at the drop of the green, with David Harrison and Linder in tow. Linder made a low move on lap three to pass Harrison in one turn and Sauder in the next to take the lead. Linder would hold the top spot until lap 12 when Ivy drove around him in the middle of the track.

Ivy, the current point leader at Fremont, then set sail, lapping up to ninth place to take the win over Harrison, Linder, Matt Lucius and Lee Jacobs.

In the 305 feature, rookie Kevin Lee jumped into the early lead, only to see Norwalk, Ohio's Chad Laux take over the top spot on lap four. Laux maintained the lead until lap 19, when eighth starting Ryan Lowe drove around for the lead. Lowe picked his way through lapped traffic the final five laps of the non-stop feature to score his first career Fremont victory.

"I'm stunned...I just don't have the words to describe this," said an emtional Lowe. "We've worked so hard over the last few years and have been so close. This is so neat for my family. It's been 34 years since my grandpa's #66 won at Fremont (Donnie Miller was the driver). This is the greatest feeling in the world to win in front of your hometown crowd and in front of all your family and friends."

Behind Lowe at the checkered were Laux, Brian Smith, Lee and and 13th starting Scott Miller.

In the Coors Light Dirt Truck feature, Tiffin, Ohio's Paul Dymond scored his second straight victory, leading all 15 laps. Joe Hartlaub, Dwight Waltermeier, Steve Sabo and Dan Roepke rounded out the top five.

"I have to thank all my help...my dad and my brother and everyone who works on this thing. Boy, this is a lot of fun winning a feature," said Dymond.

Fremont Speedway will be back in action Saturday, June 12, with Crown Battery Night featuring the 410 sprints, 305 sprints and Coors Light Dirt Trucks

Lucious, Ivy Capture Fremont Twins

FREMONT, Ohio (May 29, 2004) - "Better Scenery." That message was written on tape on the dash of Matt Lucius' sprint car. It was meant to show the second-year 410 sprint driver that a clear track in front of you is a lot better to look at than the back of other race cars...it means your in the lead.

The 21-year-old Tiffin, Ohio resident responded by scoring an impressive feature win in the second of two features at the Budweiser Shoot Out Saturday at Fremont Speedway. Two-time track champion John Ivy scored the victory in the opening Bud Light feature. Fremont's Bobby Davis picked up the win in the Coors Light Dirt Truck A-main.

The night's racing included two feature events for the 410 sprints. The Bud Light affair was 25 laps, with the finishing order inverted for the 30-lap Budweiser finale. The Bud Light feature paid $2,500 to win, with the Budweiser feature carrying a $3,000 paycheck. If the same driver would have won both, he would have earned a $2,000 Bud Bonus.

In the first feature, Portland, Michigan's Dustin Daggett jumped into the lead from his pole starting spot, only to see Whitehouse, Ohio's Todd Heller speed around him on the top side a short time later. The race came to a halt on lap six when Bobby Clark and Shane Helms came together, both cars flipping violently. Helms was shaken up and was taken to the hospital for a check-up. Clark's crew put the #8 back together, but he was unable fire for the second feature.

On the restart, Heller set sale, with fast qualifier Ivy making his way up from sixth starting spot. Ivy pulled under Heller with two laps to go and went on to take the win. Heller was second, with Rob Chaney Third, David Harrison fourth and Mike Linder fifth.

"Boy, the driver of this thing has been messing up a lot lately. I'm glad I could make it up to my crew and get it in victory lane," said Ivy, who scored his 19th career Fremont win, moving him to a tie for 19th on the all-time victory list. "We have our work cut out for us in this second feature coming from the back. There are some very good cars starting ahead of us. Hey, were used to coming from the tail...I mean I've sput out and had to do it a lot already this year."

Once the field was inverted for the final feature, 16-year-old Caleb Griffith jumped into the lead from his pole starting spot. However, Archbold, Ohio's Kyle Sauder slid around Griffith a short time later to take the lead. Sauder, riding the rim of the track in his S&L Farms entry, built up a huge lead, but on lap 10, the car lost power and came to a halt on the backstretch, giving Griffith back the lead. Meanwhile, Ivy, who had started 18th, had worked his way up to 10th.

On the restart, Griffith and Lucius began a torrid battle for the lead, with Lucius taking the top spot on lap 13. Lucius, who began his racing career in Fremont Speedway's dirt truck division a few years ago, built a sizeable lead. Meanwhile, a Ada, Ohio's Andy James shot around the high side of the track to take second from Griffith. But, all eyes were on the #9x of Rob Chaney, who had spun on lap two and was charging through the pack.

At the checkered, it was Lucius by half a track over James, Chaney, Harrison and Griffith.

Chaney scored a pair of third place showings in both races, while Harrison scored a pair of fourth place finishes.

"I would have never thought I'd be on the front stretch at the end of the night... this is just incredible. It hasn't sunk in yet," said Lucius standing beside his Doug Ludwig owned Lucius Fence sponsored car. "I have to thank the Ludwigs for giving me this opportunity. They have invested a lot of money in racing (they also own Griffith's and Harrison's cars) and I'm glad I could get him a win. He had three cars finish in the top five, so Doug has to be pretty happy."

In the Coors Light Dirt Truck feature, David took the lead on lap 11 of the 15-lap affair and went on to score his fifth career Fremont feature victory over Wayne, Ohio's Dwight Waltermeier, Woodville, Ohio's Danny Roepke, Fremont's Steve Sabo and Oak Harbor's Brian Michaels.

Chaney , Smith Top Fremont

FREMONT, Ohio (May 22, 2004) - Earlier in the week, Fremont's Brian Smith guaranteed a victory in the 305 sprint/SOD 360 sprint challenge at Fremont Speedway. He backed that up, taking the Bobby's Auto Repair/Minnich Trucking 305 sprinter to victory.

In the 410 sprint A-Main Millersburg, Ohio's Rob Chaney took the lead from Shane Helms on lap 11 and then survived a last lap challenge from Fremont's Mike Linder to win the Roots Poultry feature.

Over 84 SOD 360 and Northern Ohio 305 sprints signed into the pit area as the Sprints On Dirt organization was making its first appearance at "The Track That Action Built" since 1988. That forced eight heat races and four B-mains to be run to make up the 24-car field.

Fostoria's Jamie Miller jumped into the early lead from his pole starting spot, with Millbury's Andy Shammo taking the top spot on lap 6. Smith, who started fourth, took the lead on lap 10 of the non-stop 25-lap affair, and powered to the victory over Shammo, Scott Miller, Dustin Keegan and Miller.

"When I made that guarantee, I should have said 'God willing,' but after winning at Attica last week, this team has had so much confidence that I just had to say we were going to win. I have to thank Bobby Sears and Brian Minnich for all they do to give me such a great race car," said Smith, whose victory was his second career Fremont win.

In the 410 feature, pole sitter Shane Helms jumped into the early with action being halted for a Brandon Martin tip-over on lap 9. When the race resumed, Chaney, driving the Stan Courtad sprinter, used the bottom groove to get around Helms and set sail. Meanwhile, Linder was moving up from his 13th starting spot to take second with 15 laps remaining. Linder whittled away at Chaney's lead, as the leader got bottled up in lapped traffic. With two laps to go, Linder pulled to within two car lengths of Chaney and was right on his bumper at the checkered.

"I heard another car coming... I knew I just had to keep my line. I got behind Matt Lucius and he was running such a good groove on the bottom. I knew I couldn't move up to lap him or I'd get passed," said Chaney. "I have to thank Stan Courtad for continuing to believe in us even after we'd struggled early this year."

At the finish is Chaney, Linder, Fremont's Bobby Clark, Mark Keegan (up from 12th) and Alvin Roepke rounding out the top five.

The Buckeye Cable Sports Network taped the shows and will broadcast them on cable systems in the Toledo and Sandusky areas on Sunday, May 23 at 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.; Monday, May 24, at 7 a.m.; Wednesday, May 26, at 12:30 a.m.; and Wednesday, May 26, at 5 p.m. For more information log onto www.BCSN.tv.

Fremont Speedway will be back in action this coming Saturday, May 29, with the Budweiser Shoot-out with twin features for the 410 sprints. The finishing order of the first feature will be completely inverted for the start of the second A-main. The Coors Light Dirt Trucks are also on the racing card.

Then on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31, True Value Hardware of Woodville will present the first of two appearances of the ALMS late models at Fremont Speedway. The 305 sprints and Coors Light Dirt Trucks will also be on the racing card.

Ivy Wins Opener at Fremont (OH)

FREMONT, Ohio (April 24, 2004) - John Ivy's confidence was shaken the opening weeks of the racing season, as he crashed two consecutive nights. But, he scored a third place finish on Friday and used that confidence to storm to the feature win on opening night for Fremont Speedway.

Ivy used a lapped car as a pick to move past Fremont's Mike Linder on the 18th lap of the 30-lap feature and moved through lapped traffic with expertise to pick up his 18th career feature win at "The Track That Action Built" on Crabill Construction Night.

"Boy, we really needed this weekend. After those first couple of nights I was beginning to wonder what was going on," said Ivy, who started the evening by scoring the fast time in qualifying. "I have to thank Sid and Beth Eickelberry for allowing us to race this season."

"Mike was better in turns one and two, but I could catch him in the middle of three and four. I'll tell you, Mike's been knocking on the door and pretty soon he'll kick it in," said Ivy, the 2001 and 2002 Fremont track champion. "I have to thank Guy Meyers and my brother Scott and all the crew...they've really had to work hard the first couple of weeks."

Linder jumped into the lead from his pole starting position and held the lead on several red flag restarts as Alvin Roepke, Kyle Sauder and Caleb Griffith all got upside down (no one was injured). Ivy stayed in his tire tracks until they hit lapped traffic on lap 18, when Ivy executed his winning move.

At the checkered, it was Ivy, Linder, defending track champion Byron Reed, 13th starting Mark Keegan and David Harrison rounding out the top five.

Milberry's Andy Shammo led all 25 laps of the 305 sprint feature to claim the win aboard his Burkin Custom Trailers car.

"I have to thank Lemar Burkin and his family for giving me everything I need to race and have fun," said Shammo about his eighth career Fremont victory.

Behind Shammo were Scott Miller, 16th starting Brian Smith, Brian Sebetto and 15th starting Paul Weaver. .
