Knoxville Outlaw Dirt Kart Nationals
an Overwhelming Success
3 Time Knoxville Champion Kyle Larson
Wheels Crippled Kart to Open Division Championship as Mason
Moore, Kelby Taylor, Tyler Seavey Add Championships to their
resumes.
August 12, 2005 Knoxville, IA
13 Year Old Kyle Larson from Elk Grove Ca.
won the Open Division and the 125cc Division A Main Events
at the Knoxville Outlaw Dirt Kart Nationals on Friday
Evening. The 3 day event ended with a heart pounding 25 lap
race in which fellow Californian Tyler Wolf led every lap
till a last ditch drag race with Larson left him only
21/1000ths of second off the win. Starting positions for
the Mains were determined by cumulative points - with Tyler
Wolf starting on the pole. Starting in 8th position
Larson's ParkerStore/QRC Factory Kart sustained extensive
damage to the front end and wing during an early front
stretch tangle but he was able to successfully pass "Pistol"
Pete Johnston for second position. From there it was a
chase to the finish to catch the ultra fast kart of Wolf.
Everywhere in the field great racing kept the crowd on its
feet.
Mason Moore from Princeton, CA, held off the
big pack of roaring 250 Four Stroke karts to take the
championship for the class. Kelby Taylor took home the
trophy for the Two Stroke 250cc class. In a repeat of last
years Knoxville Nationals and the West Coast Nationals in
Red Bluff, Kyle Larson beat the competition to take the
championship. Nine year old Tyler Seavey from Sutter, CA
held off the powerhouse of Kellcy Bell during the final laps
of the Box Stock Main Event. The Box Stock line up included
the fastest box stock racers in the country, including Tyler
Reddick, Kyle Telstrom, Casey McClain, Austin Paul, and
Mallorie McGahan.
Friday's main events at English Creek
Speedway in Iowa were nearly rained out, but a herculean
effort by the staff allowed the show to complete despite a
mud soaked venue.
The record gathering of Outlaw Dirt Karts
included 157 entries from all over the United States - even
more entries than the Knoxville Sprint Car Nationals being
held at the same time. Dozens of California, Nevada, and
Idaho drivers made the long tow back to participate in the
historic event. The races were held during the day so
participants could attend the Sprint Car Nationals in the
evening. Rain threatened to cancel the events of the last
day, but thanks to an heroic effort by the English Creek
Speedway Staff and Shilling Excavating the mud bogged pits
and track were cleared enough to let the races run.
Dan Ebright and the staff of the English
Creek Speedway would like to extend a special thank you to
everyone who participated in the 2005 Knoxville Outlaw Dirt
Kart Nationals, and to the sponsors and contributors who
helped make it such a huge success, including:
Shilling Excavating - who
not only sponsor and help maintain the track but also helped
get the races going on Friday as well as helping to
extricate trailers and cars from the mud after the races.
ADTS Inc. - Alcohol & Drug Testing
(The Helberg Family) for their generous help with the
Nationals. We missed having you here this year !
The Red Carpet Motel in
Knoxville for the support, sponsorship and contribution of
the Perpetual Trophy for the Open Division. I have to add
that these folks are GREAT - very friendly, helpful even
when we showed up at midnight to check-in. They are true
race fans and supporters of the sport ! Thanks !
Kin Folks - The Eatin Place
- For their Sponsorship and Support. Gotta tell ya, when
you are in Knoxville, make the short drive to Attica for the
best bbq in the world at Kin Folks.
Bob Carrel - Promoter of the
Red Bluff Outlaws - for supplying and setting up the
computerized transponder system, and for his expertise in
running a big show.

long trip to Knoxville from California for running the
computer and transponders.

CYCLELAND SPEEDWAY CHICO, CA July 30th, 2005
Story by Gary Jacob
After timing in out of the dash, point leader Pete Johnston won his heat to earn the pole for the 20 lap Open Outlaw kart feature and he was never headed in that race in his Clarence Reddick owned Sprint Kart Enterprises entry Saturday night at Cycleland Speedway. Previous week winner John Michael Bunch made a lap 19 pass on Justin Grant to finish second as J Grant settled for third. In the Open Intermediate 20 lapper, Mason Moore led from lap 6, but was just 1/8 of a second in front of Brett Miller at the checkered flag. B Miller was subbing for James Sweeney. Point leader Kyle Larson battled back from an early spin to finish fifth behind fast timer Keith Bloom Jr and Brian Southers. Sportsman point leader Grant Keeter set fast time and won the feature in that class. Ryan Everson ran second ahead of the husband-wife team of Scott and Jaime Burgess. Larson posted his 24th win of 2005 as he led the final 19 laps of the 20 lap Intermediate feature. He had timed out of the dash, but won his heat to earn the third starting spot. Moore had a big night as he finished second ahead of Colby Copeland and Jake Cartwright. Dash winner James Edens made a lap 19 pass on heat victor Tyrell Nelson to the win the Pro Box Stock 20 lapper. Casey McClain finished third, but the double division racer won the 20 lapper for the Box Stocks ahead of point leader Tyler Seavey, Edens and 15th starter David Lee. McClain is the Pro Box Stock point leader.
Tyler Wolf was quickest of the 26 opens at 11.088. Usual open intermediate racer Keith Bloom Jr subbed for Cody Braund and ran a 11.109 for second quick. Austin Kerns had a 11.154 and Camron Mendes ran 11.170. Previous week winner John Michael Bunch and A J Kerns also made the dash with Jerry Johnson 7th ahead of the point championship challengers Justin Grant and Pete Johnston. The Kerns duo waged an exciting dash with A J winning by just 0.1 seconds over Austin. Bunch was just ¾ of a second back in third. Johnston ran an 11.201 best lap as he captured heat 1, but Brandon Aldred stayed within 1/3 of a second of him. David Tarter was third. J Grant easily won heat 2 with a 1.5 second margin on Michael Helwig as Daniel Becker ran third. A small B main was won by Austin VanKeuren, ½ second in front of Josh Zander. Nick DeCarlo visited with a third ahead of Reyna Krueger and Troy Foulger. The format places the top four from the heat action in front of the six dash karts at the front of the 22 kart A Main and Johnston was untouchable from the pole. J Grant started outside front row, faded back to fifth on the first lap, but retook second on lap 2. J Grant ran second until lap 19 when Bunch drove by him. Bunch had been as far back as 7th during the race and was running fifth with just three laps to run. He passed Wolf and A J Kerns on lap 18 and took second from J Grant on lap 19. Johnston was ¾ of a second in front of Bunch at the checkered flag with J Grant just one second behind the winner. Wolf ran fourth ahead of A J Kerns, Tarter, Becker, 20th starter Josh Zander, Brett Miller and VanKeuren. Aldred broke after racing in third through lap 15. Michael Helwig exited while fourth on lap 11. Johnston had the best feature lap at 11.735 and J Grant ran an 11.806. Aldred had an 11.830.
Double division Bloom was the quickest of the Open Intermediates at 11.070 as he continues to challlenge Kyle Larson for that championship. Mason Moore ran 11.171, a time that was matched by Dillon Silverman. Brian Southers, Josh Keheley and Larson also made the dash. Larson ran an 11.188 as he won the dash from the pole, nearly one second ahead of Southers with Moore 1/3 of a lap back in third. Brett Miller subbed for James Sweeney and he won heat 1 by ¾ of a second ahead of Chad Pace and Kyle Johnson. Colby Copeland ran away with heat 2, winning by 3.5 seconds over Allissa Geving with Tyler Taylor in third. There were 25 karts in this division so the final 4 A Main starters came from a 7 kart B Main. Anthony Roach won the B Main over Camron Mendes, Brandyn Donenfeld and Austin Roach after Mike Schroder was disqualified from 2nd. B Miller and Copeland shared the front row for the 20 lap A Main and B Miller led the first five laps. Larson leaped from fifth to second on lap 1, but spun on lap 4 and had to restart in the rear. Moore took over second and grabbed the lead from B Miller on lap 6. Southers took third from Copeland on lap 6, but lost that spot to Bloom on lap 16. Larson was able to battle his way back to fifth as Moore won ahead of B Miller, Bloom and Southers. C Pace ran sixth ahead of Copeland, Geving, Taylor and Silverman. Moore was only 1/8 of a second ahead of B Miller at the checkered flag. Bloom was ¾ of a second back in third. Thirteen karts finished on the lead lap. Moore was the only racer to break into the 11’s at 11.881 as B Miller ran a 12.139 and Southers a 12.189.
Sportsman point leader Grant Keeter paced their 21 kart entry with his 11.668 lap. Donnie Ritcheson subbed for Scott Morton and ranked second with a 11.763. Troy Combs ran 11.771 and the dash field was rounded out by Kevin Gaines, Rick Arnett and Ryan Everson. Arnett clicked off a 11.717 lap as he won the dash by one second over R Everson. Scott Burgess earned the pole for the feature with an easy win in heat 1, finishing two seconds in front of Nevada’s Darren Rogers. Bunch, Moore, Larson, Reddick, Everson, Edens and Gillingwater take wins at Cycleland Speedway
CYCLELAND SPEEDWAY CHICO, CA July 23rd, 2005
Story by Gary Jacob
Having finished three seconds behind heat winner Emalee Ramirez, John Michael Bunch had everything together for the Open Outlaw Kart A Main Saturday night at Cycleland Speedway as he took the lead on the first lap and was never headed. Tyler Wolf gained second when point leader Pete Johnston blew a tire midway through the 20 lapper and finished there ahead of David Tarter. In the Open Intermediate 20 lapper, it only took six laps for sixth starter Mason Moore, third in points, to take the top spot. Heat winner Josh Keheley ran second and championship hopeful Keith Bloom Jr ran third. Point leader Kyle Larson was 12th. After a second in his heat race, Ryan Everson had the lead on lap 9 of the 20 lap sportsman feature and he stayed in front for the win. Dash winner Kevin Gaines passed heat winner Jimmy Pettit on the final lap to finish second. Intermediate point leader Kyle Larson took the lead from Colby Copeland on lap 15 and gained his 23rd feature win in 55 starts in 2005. Moore enjoyed a huge night as he finished second and Copeland repassed Thomas Bruckenstein on the final lap for third. James Edens continues to chase down Pro Box Stock point leader Casey McClain and he led the final half of this week’s 20 lap feature. McClain passed Cody Grant late for second and C Grant had a career best third. McClain was also tough in the Box Stock feature, leading until lap 18 when Tyler Reddick made his winning move. McClain was just 1/8 of a second behind at the checkered flag. Second ranked Reddick closed ground on point leader Tyler Seavey with the win. Cameron Bartlett was third. Jarett Gillingwater got his first feature win in the Beginner Box Stocks ahead of heat winner Brian McGahan Jr and the Donnelly duo with Tanner Donnelly third ahead of Tucker Donnelly.

Story by Gary Jacob
After a race long duel with R C Smith, crowd favorite Reyna Krueger from Chico scored a narrow win in the 20 lap feature for the open outlaw karts at Cycleland Speedway on Saturday night. Krueger finished ¼ second in front of R Smith and 1/3 second in front of A J Kerns. While Pete Johnston only managed a 9th, that effort plus quick time was enough to push him back ahead of Justin Grant for the point lead as J Grant had a tough night. Track championship duelers Kyle Larson and Keith Bloom Jr ran 1-2 in the Open Intermediate A Main with point leader K Larson the winner after leading from lap 7. Josh Keheley ran third. After timing in out of the dash, Brad Jones won the lone heat for the sportsman class and was never headed in their 20 lap feature as he turned the quickest laps there. Point leader Grant Keeter was second ahead of dash winner Ryan Everson. The Intermediate A Main was dominated by Thomas Bruckenstein and Justyn Cox as Dillon Silverman ran third. Point leader K Larson fell to the rear with an early problem and battled back to finish sixth. James Edens, young son of former dirt late model star Jay Edens, had another big night as he battled to wins in both the Pro Box Stocks and the Box Stocks. He is in contention for the championship in both classes. In the Pro Box Stocks, he won the dash and had the feature lead in three laps, winning by one second over point leader Casey McClain. Aaron Bundy was third. In the Box Stocks, third ranked Edens won the dash, had the feature lead in two laps and won by a half second over second ranked Tyler Reddick. Pont leader Tyler Seavey ran fourth behind Shane Hopkins, both five seconds behind the race winner. Jarett Gillingwater only managed a sixth in the Beginner Box Stock heat, but won the feature action ahead of Brian McGahan Jr and heat winner Nick Varricchio.
Second ranked Pete Johnston was quickest of the 24 Open Outlaws at 11.144 and John Michael Bunch ran a 11.219. Josh Zander ranked third with a 11.319 and Michael Helwig ran 11.388. Also making the dash were Tyler Wolf and Justin Reinolds. Losing a lot of ground to Johnston in the point race was point leader Justin Grant as he timed in just 19th quick and he also struggled to a 6th in his heat race. Reinolds won the dash by less than a second over Johnston, but Johnston was penalized back to 4th for a jump start. That moved M Helwig into second ahead of Bunch. Johnston had the quickest dash lap at 11.299. R C Smith was only ¼ second ahead of A J Kerns at the checkered flag of heat 1 as female star Emalee Ramirez ran third. R Smith clicked off a 11.060, J Grant ran a 11.078 and Kerns a 11.113. Krueger preceeded her feature win with a victory in heat 2 as she beat Brett Miller by 1.2 seconds. Krueger ran a 11.144 and B Miller an 11.204. The short field found everyone qualifying for the 20 lap A Main. R Smith and Krueger shared the front row and ran 1-2 the whole way. R Smith led five laps, then it was Krueger through lap 17. R Smith raced back into the lead on lap 18 and Krueger then stormed back to pace the final two laps for the very popular win. Kerns took third from Rudger Worley on lap 5 and finished there. Bunch slowly climbed through the pack to a fourth ahead of B Miller, Zander, J Reinolds, Worley, Johnston, Daniel Becker, David Tarter and M Helwig. Krueger was only ¼ second in front of R Smith at the checkered flag and Kerns was just 1/3 second behind the winner. The top nine finishers were separated by less than 3 seconds. The track had slowed down and Krueger’s 11.605 was the quickest lap. R Smith ran 11.825 and Kerns an 11.962. Worley also broke into the 11’s at 11.784. Johnston never got higher than 7th, but still gained a lot of ground on J Grant who was the last lead lap kart. J Grant was 8th with just two laps to go, but ended up 19th.
Bloom had cut Open Intermediate point leader K Larson’s advantage down to just 20 points starting the night and he paced the 27 kart turnout with a very quick 10.855 qualifying run. Mason Moore was second at 11.122, a time that was matched by K Larson. Josh Keheley, Colby Copeland and Brett Hamilton also made the dash as Hamilton was again subbing for baseball player Brian Southers. Moore was quick in the dash as he won with a best lap of 11.195 and a 1 second lead over Copeland. K Larson ran third. Camron Mendes was just 1/3 second ahead of Kyle Johnson at the end of heat 1 and Amanda Reinolds got third, just 2/3 of a second back. James Sweeney ran away with heat 2, winning by 2 seconds over Nick Soto and Dillon Silverman. Sweeney ran a 11.693. A small B Main was won by Matthew Davis over Brandyn Donenfeld and Nick Larson. Davis was a half lap in front at the checkered flag. Mendes and Sweeney held down the front row for the 20 lap A Main and Sweeney did lead lap 1, but both got tangled up on lap 2 and Copeland was the new leader over K Larson, Keheley and Bloom. K Larson took the lead from Copeland on lap 7 and stayed in front for the remainder of the 20 lapper. Copeland managed to hang onto second until Bloom drove by him on lap 19. Copeland fell back to 4th as Keheley got around him on lap 19. K Larson won ahead of Bloom, Keheley, Copeland, Mendes, A Reinolds, Nick Meyer, Silverman and Davis. Winner K Larson was the only kart in the 11’s with a best lap of 11.763 and a winning margin of 2.5 seconds over Bloom.
There were only 13 sportsman this week and Jaime Burgess paced time trials with a 11.468 lap. Keeter ran a 11.554 and Scott Burgess earned points for Troy Combs with his 11.629. Sixth quick Everson won the dash in front of Kevin Gaines and Keeter. Everson was 2.5 seconds in front at the checkered and had a best lap of 11.853. The lone heat race was won by feature winner Brad Jones ahead of Travis Stopplemon and Karl Pavlik Jr. Jones held nearly a four second advantage and ran a 12.076. Jones had the pole for the 20 lap feature and was never headed as he ran the fastest laps with a 12.359 best lap. Keeter held a 65 point lead over Everson starting the night and ran second, 1.5 seconds behind the winner. Everson made a late move into third as J Burgess fell to the rear of the pack in the final two laps. Scott Morton ran fourth ahead of Pavlik, Jim Zigan and Stopplemon. Stopplemon was second for the first 13 laps. J Burgess was the final lead lap finisher in 8th.
The Intermediates were the biggest class for the night with 33 in action. Point leader K Larson was quickest with his 11.493. He started the night 54 points up on Mason Moore and 105 in front of Bruckenstein. Double division Tyler Reddick had a 11.548 and Moore an 11.564. Also making the dash were Bruckenstein, R J Johnson and Jake Cartwright. K Larson ran a 11.589 as he stormed from last starting to win the 8 lap dash by just 2/3 of a second over Moore. Bruckenstein ran third. Sean Martin won heat 1 by 1 second over Kenny Allen and ran a quick 11.398 lap. Rookie Justyn Cox was first to the checkered flag in heat 2, but was called for a jump start and the win went to Jacob Miller ahead of Max Adams. Cox ran a 11.612 and was penalized back to third. Garry Burdick won heat 3 by 2/3 of a second over Cole Peard. Colby Copeland won the B Main by nearly 3 seconds over Jordan Miller and was the only kart in the 11’s at 11.949. Marty Hawkins ran third and a jump start penalty cost Danny Andreason the final transfer. That placed usual Box Stock star Cameron Bartlett fourth in his 250 debut. Martin led the first 3 laps of the 20 lapper from the pole, but 7th starter Bruckenstein was flying. Bruckenstein was fourth on lap 1, second on lap 2 and the leader on lap 4. K Larson followed him to second, but had a problem on lap 6 and restarted in the rear. Cox was also very quick as he raced into second with the K Larson problem. Silverman took over third ahead of Reddick, but G Burdick raced into fourth on lap 8. The race was red flagged for a huge flip by Quincy’s Peard who escaped unhurt. Bruckenstein, Cox and Silverman ran 1-2-3 the rest of the way and Moore made a charge to 4th. Reddick did reclaim fourth from G Burdick on lap 14. K Larson worked his way back to sixth ahead of G Burdick, Jacob Miller and Alissa Geving. K Larson had the quickest feature lap at 12.052, but winner Bruckenstein ran 12.170 and Cox a 12.192. Moore had a 12.187. Bruckenstein was one second in front of Cox and 2 ahead of Silverman.

McClain had a 13.183 and Edens a 13.230. Edens won the dash, but was only 1/5 of a second in front at the checkered flag ahead of McClain and Morgan. McClain had the quickest lap of 12.772 and Edens ran a 12.806. Garrett Carney won the lone heat race by 2.5 seconds over Cody Grant. C Grant led two laps of the feature with Edens and McClain into the 2-3 slots on lap 1. Edens raced into the lead on lap 3 and McClain followed him into second on lap 7. They stayed that way for the rest of the race with Edens winning by one second. Morgan gained third on lap 7 and finished there ahead of Bundy, Brittany Wilcox, Tyrell Nelson and C Grant. Edens had a 12.979 best and McClain ran a 12.992.

The dash was all Edens as he won by nearly 3 seconds from the front row with a best lap of 12.976. Reddick ran second ahead of Tellstrom. Lain Baker beat Bartlett and Reilly Gilingwater in the first heat with a very quick 12.557 best lap. Bartlett ran 12.684 and R Gillingwater a 12.660. Edens was just over ½ second ahead of Reddick at the checkered flag and nearly five seconds ahead of third place Hopkins. Hopkins was third from lap 4 and point leader T Seavey chased him all the way. McClain passed L Seavey for fifth on lap 15 and finished there ahead of L Seavey, Tellstrom and Mallorie McGahan. Edens had the fastest lap at 13.271 and Reddick ran a 13.338.

CYCLELAND SPEEDWAY CHICO, CA July 9th, 2005
Story by Gary Jacob
Gaining the lead when fast timer Pete Johnston had clutch problems and spun out of first with just two laps to go, R C Smith captured Saturday night’s Open Outlaw Kart A Main at Cycleland Speedway. Johnston managed to salvage a sixth place finish as 8th row starter Austin Kerns ran second ahead of point leader Justin Grant. J Grant was coming off his big Nationals win in Red Bluff last weekend. Dash winner James Sweeney raced from fifth to the lead in 9 laps and he won the Open Intermediate 20 lap feature ahead of Josh Keheley and Keith Bloom Jr. Sportsman point leader Grant Keeter had the lead in 8 laps and he raced to their feature win. Early leader Ryan Everson finished second ahead of Brad Jones. Timing out of the dash in 8th, Thomas Bruckenstein dominated his heat race in the Intermediate class and was never headed from his front row start in the 20 lap feature. The other front row starter Mason Moore was a race long second and point leader Kyle Larson ran third. Double division racer James Edens had two very different nights in his two classes. He won the Pro Box Stock feature after earlier taking the dash honors. Aaron Bundy ran second and point leader Casey McClain had to battle from the rear after a first lap incident to gain third. Also coming off a big July 3rd win in Red Bluff, Corning’s Tyler Reddick wheeled his Sprint Karts Enterprises entry to the Box Stock 20 lap feature win. Reddick came from tenth after a last place dash run and front row starter David Lee ran second ahead of Kyle Tellstrom. Edens had kart problems and was saddled with a last place finish. Riley Matson won the Beginner Box Stock feature ahead of Nick Varricchio and Brian McGahan Jr.
Johnston was fastest of a short field of 26 Open Outlaws with a 11.178 clocking that just nipped the 11.195 turned in by A J Kerns. Michael Helwig had a 11.214 and female star Reyna Krueger ran a 11.301. Also making the dash were point leader Justin Grant and Nic Helwig. N Helwig won the dash from the pole with fellow front row starter J Grant in second. N Helwig had a best lap of 11.048 and won by one second. Grant’s best was 11.060. Austin VanKeuren won heat 1 over pole starter R C Smith and Chad Widener. Van Keuren was one second in front at the checkered flag. Tyler Wolf took heat 2 from the pole ahead of David Tarter and back of the pack starter Brett Miller. Wolf had nearly a two second lead at the finish and ran a quick 11.080 lap. The 15 lap B Main transferred four karts into the A Main and Nathan Zander was one second in front of returning Rudger Worley at the checkered flag. Kayla Thain ran third ahead of Dean Bare and Daniel Becker missed the transfer in fifth. Zander ran a 11.145 best lap. After losing the heat race from the pole, R C Smith managed to battle from third to win the 20 lap feature. Johnston came from 7th to lead, but had clutch problems and spun with just two laps to go. He managed to salvage a sixth as Austin Kerns was one second back of R C Smith after coming from the 8th row. J Grant maintained his huge point lead with a third ahead of sixth row starter B Miller and M Helwig. Johnston’s sixth was trailed by Tarter, A J Kerns, VanKeuren and Zander. Seventeen of the 22 starters finished on the lead lap. The track had slowed down and Johnston’s 11.290 lap was easily the fastest in the feature. J Grant’s 11.627 was the second quickest. Subbing for Brian Southers who was involved in baseball playoff action, Brent Hamilton won heat 2 by one second over Alissa Geving and Mike Schroder. The B Main transferred four karts into the A Main and Nick Larsen got that win, a half second in front of Matthew Davis. Nick Meyer and James Crowell also moved up. Keheley and Hamilton shared the front row for the 20 lap feature and Hamilton led the first two laps. Problems sent Hamilton to the rear on lap 3. Keheley took over on lap 3 and paced the field until lap 9 when fifth starter Sweeney raced into the lead. Keheley ran second the rest of the way and finished just 1/5 of a second behind the winner. Bloom took third from K Larson on lap 10 and stayed there, just ¾ of a second behind the winner. Moore made a late charge into fourth as K Larson broke with just two laps to go. Red Bluff, CA - July 3, 2005 The West Coast Outlaw Kart Nationals July
3rd, 2005 In a pole to pole run in the Open A Main, Mr. Justin Grant capped an awesome 3 day weekend of racing by winning the spectacular Golden Eagle trophy in the Open Division. Kyle Larson, doing double duty in his Parker Store sponsored QRC Karts in both the 125s and Opens, took the honor of National Champion of the 125/250 Division as well as winning his 101st Main Event Win. Tyler Reddick, the most racing-est kid on the circuit ran his SKE Kart to a spectacular win for the title of National Box Stock Champion. In the Garth Moore Dash for Cash races, Keith Bloom Jr. won the tough battle in the Open Division to win the top money. Brian Southers sprinted to a strong win in the 125 Division and Chase Majdic battled tough competition to win the bucks in the Box Stock. There was a special invitational Open Dash for Cash presented by Bill Bell and Carefree Pools with Aaron Colburn claiming the $500.00 special prize. Aaron gracious donated generously to the collection fund for Big Tony Montgomery. On Saturday special Invitational Races were held and Brett Miller took the honors in the Open Division, Jonny Lentz in the 125/250s, the Box Stock result is currently not known by the writer. It was an incredible weekend of racing that included the largest payouts and purses in the history of the sport. Newly paved pit areas, super-size misters and fans were added to the venue that is the Birthplace of Outlaw Karts. Despite high temperatures a great time was had by all. One father said it was best time his entire family has spent together in years. The entertainment for the weekend included a delicious Tri-Tip Dinner, a lively bonfire and bench racing party on Friday, a spectacular indoor fireworks display and Opening Ceremonies, prestigious Trophy Dash races, a big Pancake Breakfast on Sunday and the presentation of the giant Golden Eagle Trophies - not to mention simply the most exciting racing in the world. Racers from all over the country, Oregon, Nevada, Idaho, and as far east as Missouri made the tow to the small town of Red Bluff to compete in this historical event. Complete race information - winners, points photos, news, and more photos will be available on-line at www.qrc-allstars.com as the week progresses. Special Thanks to everyone who helped make this race so successful, from the major sponsors, to the folks at Care Free Pools, and Garth Moore Insurance and Financial Services for special race purses and to Garth Moore who arranged the betting pool to benefit Big Tony (one of the official for the Red Bluff Outlaws, who continues to recover from a stroke). A huge thanks to Bob and Pat, and the entire Carrel Family for undertaking this enormous adventure. Thanks to Ali Abbassi and NEC Sports for organizing the spectacular Opening Ceremonies, and every single driver, crewperson, fan, official and behind-the-scenes folks who made this the premier racing event of the year.

CYCLELAND SPEEDWAY CHICO, CA JUNE 11, 2005
Story by Gary Jacob
Taking the lead from John Michael Bunch on lap 7, Daniel Becker won the 20 lap Open Outlaw Kart A Main Saturday night at Cycleland Speedway as the track finished off a big two night weekend. Nic Helwig ran second and David Tarter made a last lap pass on Justin Grant to finish third. Like Becker, Brian Southers started third in his Open Intermediate 20 lap feature win and he took the lead on lap 8. Point leader Kyle Larson moved into second late in the race and finished just 1/3 of a second behind winner Southers. Kyle Johnson edged out fellow Placerville resident James Sweeney in a photo finish for third. Eureka’s Troy Combs led the final 11 laps to win the 20 lap sportsman feature and Grant Keeter nearly overtook Ryan Everson for second. The Intermediate 20 lap feature had a spectacular finish as Mason Moore from Princeton leaped from third to the win on the final lap. Pole starter Kenny Allen led the first 19 laps, but Moore passed both Allen and Jake Cartwright on the last lap to get the win. 1/3 of a second separated the three karts at the checkered flag. Casey McClain led the final 17 laps to win the Pro Box Stock 20 lap feature and James Edens made a late move around Nevada’s Jennifer Purcell to finish second. After a strong second place finish to Edens in the Friday night All Star Tour race, Ukiah’s Kyle Tellstrom waged an early race duel with Edens before winning the Box Stock 20 lap feature. Dash winner Logan Seavey got around Edens late in the race to finish a fast closing second behind Tellstrom. A large turnout of Beginner Box Stocks forced two feature races with Skylar Tweedle and A J Sauer getting the wins.
Tyler Wolf was quickest of the 33 Open Outlaw Karts with a very fast 10.885 qualifying run. Friday night All Star Tour winner Pete Johnston ranked second at 10.931 and Justin Grant was the final 10 second kart at 10.995. The dash field was rounded out by Brett Miller, Reyna Krueger and R C Smith. Smith won the dash from the pole ahead of Krueger and Grant to earn the 5th starting spot in the 20 lap A Main. The six dash karts are automatically in the A Main and the remainder of the field is split into three straight up heat races. Seventh quick John Michael Bunch won the first heat by nearly 4 seconds ahead of David Tarter and Oregon’s Kevin Putnam. Nic Helwig came from the second row to score a photo finish win over Cody Braund in heat 2. Outside front row starter Becker won heat 3 with Cody Smith second ahead of Heath Withrow. Four karts transferred out of each of the heats, leaving four more transfers from the 15 kart B Main. ALL STAR TOUR RACE CYCLELAND SPEEDWAY CHICO, CA JUNE 10, 2005
Story by Gary Jacob
Chico, CA -- Series point leader Pete Johnston made an aggressive outside groove pass to retake the lead from fast timer Tyler McCain on lap 14 and he raced to a $285 win in the 20 lap A Main as the previously rained out Outlaw Kart All Star Tour race was run on Friday night at Cycleland Speedway. For the 2005 season, Johnston has teamed up with Clarence Reddick to race a North Carolina built Sprint Karts Enterprises house kart sponsored by Corning Ford. He timed in 7th quick in a 47 kart field, won his heat race and then captured the dash to earn the pole position for the A Main. Johnston won the tour opener at Lakeport, then ran third at round two in Medford OR. Third starter T McCain beat Johnston to a lap 8 yellow flag, but Johnston made his incredible wall hugging pass to regain the lead on lap 14. Johnston won ahead of T McCain, who pocketed $150 while third place was worth $95 for Keith Bloom Jr. David Tarter ran fourth ahead of Mason Moore. T McCain won the tour championship in both 2003 and 2004, but is not chasing the traveling series in 2005. Sponsorship for the All Star Tour in 2005 is coming from Robinson Engineering, Care-Free Pools, A1A Performance Muffler, QRC Inc, Jimmy Sills School of Open Wheel Racing, NorCal Performance, JW Web Design, Care Free Custom Graphics and Garth Moore Insurance and Financial Services.
Both T McCain and Brian McCain were in their own karts for the first time since the Red Bluff indoor winter season and they turned the two quickest qualifying times. Since the qualifying order is determined by the tour point standings, they were two of the last karts to run and T McCain ran a 11.342 lap to top the 11.387 turned in by his older brother B McCain. That took quick time honors from early qualifier A J Kerns, who ran a 11.510. Tarter ranked fourth at 11.531 and double division racer Kyle Larson ran a 11.547. The top ten was rounded out by double division Moore, Johnston, Bloom, Colby Copeland and Brad Patchen. The teams were divided into four qualifying heats with the top four finishers advancing to the A Main. The heat winners would race a Dash for Cash to determine the starting order for the front two rows of the A Main lineup. T McCain won heat 1 with a best lap of 11.53 as Larson ran second ahead of Tyler Wolf. While battling for third, Copeland and Brett Miller got locked together, forcing them to battle from the C Main. While leading heat 2, B McCain got out of shape late in the race, fading to a sixth place finish and electing to load up. Moore got this win ahead of Cody Braund and Brent Hamilton after second place finisher James Sweeney was penalized back to 4th for a jump start. Johnston won heat 3 with a best lap of 11.80 as A J Kerns ran second ahead of Daniel Becker. Clicking off a best of 11.63, Tarter won heat 4 ahead of Bloom and Aaron Colburn. The draw for the starting order in the dash put Moore and Tarter in the front row ahead of Johnston and T McCain. Despite having an inside starting spot, Johnston was able to jump into the high line and pass everyone on the first lap. He won the Garth Moore Insurance sponsored dash ahead of Tarter, T McCain and Moore with a best lap of 11.50. Bubba Hill took the lead from Reyna Krueger on lap 13 and won the 15 lap B Main. Brian Southers made a late pass to take second and Krueger ran third ahead of Steven Gannon and B Miller. Gannon had led the first two laps before Krueger got inside him for the top spot. Taylor Simas took the lead from Sean Sheppard on lap 2 and won the 12 lap C Main. B Miller came through the pack to finish second ahead of Michael Helwig, Emalee Ramirez and Sheppard.
With their dash finish, Johnston, Tarter, T McCain and Moore held down the front two rows for the 20 lap A Main. With a thunder and lightning storm quickly approaching, the feature was run off quickly and started one kart short as female star Krueger broke on the pace laps. Johnston charged into the lead over T McCain, Tarter, Moore and Larson. Braund spun on lap 4 and the first caution fell as Wolf lost a wheel. The restart saw fifth place duelers Larson and Becker tangle. They had to restart in the rear and Colburn stalled for a lap 8 yellow flag. As the leaders raced to the caution, Johnston got out of shape coming off turn 4 and he fell back to second behind T McCain. Sweeney fell out. On the restart, Bloom took third from Tarter. Moore was now fifth ahead of Justin Grant and Austin Kerns. On lap 13, Johnston pulled alongside leader T McCain and he thrilled the crowd with his high line pass in turn 4 on lap 14 to take the lead from T McCain. Brent Hamilton had problems and it was all Johnston as he won the 20 lapper ahead of T McCain, Bloom, Tarter, Moore, Grant, Hill, Austin Kerns, John Michael Bunch, Southers and Larson. Johnston turned the quickest lap in the feature at 11.433 and T McCain had an 11.460. Bloom had the third quickest best at 11.621 and Larson ran a 11.780. Sixteen of the 21 starters finished on the lead lap.

He turned quick time, won his heat race, ran second to Mason Moore in the dash and then paced all 20 laps of the A Main for the $200 win. In 2004, he was Tour champion in this division when it was limited to 125 cc machines. In 2005, it has been opened to both 250s and 125s. Larson tied his career mark with 26 feature wins in 2004, but he is well on his way to beating that mark as tonight was his 17th win in 41 starts in 2005. Moore was a $100 second and Mariposa’s Josh Keheley won $65 for third. Larson’s racing is sponsored by Parker Store, QRC, Corning Ford, Care Free Pools and RPM Indoor Racing. Larson ran second to Moore in the series opener in Lakeport, then won the Medford OR race on Memorial Day weekend. Eight year James Edens from Santa Rosa was the $155 winner in the 20 lap Box Stock main event to move into the tour point lead. Edens led the rest of the way to beat Ukiah’s Kyle Tellstrom, Cycleland point leader Tyler Seavey and double division Tyler Reddick in the 20 lapper. Tellstrom won $80 and T Seavey $55. Edens’ racing is sponsored by QRC, Black Hawk Body Shop, North Marin Painting and HM Racing. Edens beat Reddick in the series opener at Lakeport and Reddick beat Edens on Memorial Day weekend in Medford. Sponsorship for the All Star Tour in 2005 is coming from Robinson Engineering, Care-Free Pools, A1A Performance Muffler, QRC Inc, Jimmy Sills School of Open Wheel Racing, NorCal Performance, JW Web Design, Care Free Custom Graphics and Garth Moore Insurance and Financial Services
Larson was the quickest of 29 Intermediate entries as he ran a 11.819 lap. Kenny Allen ranked second at 11.884 and Moore ran an 11.898. Keheley broke into the 11’s with an 11.960 and a 12.026 earned Colby Copeland fifth. Wyatt Pruitt was sixth ahead of Dillon Silverman and Joe Stornetta. Three heat races advanced the top six finishers into the A Main. Larson won heat 1 from the pole with an 11.94 best lap. Silverman got into the fence warming up for the heat, but rebounded to finish fifth as Max Adams impressed with a second place finish ahead of Keheley and Alissa Geving. Allen also got an 11.94 best as he won heat 2 over Jason Mittry and Copeland. Pruitt won heat 3 in front of Moore and Chase Hill. The top two finishers from each heat advanced into the Dash for Cash to determine the starting order for the front three rows in the 20 lap A Main. Mittry and Moore drew the front row ahead of Larson, Adams, Allen and Pruitt. With a best lap of 12.00, Moore won the Garth Moore Insurance sponsored Dash for Cash ahead of Larson, Mittry, Adams, Pruitt and Allen. The top four advanced from the B Main and Cassie Millhouse got this win ahead of Oregon’s Marena-Starr Ferguson and Matthew Davis. R J Johnson made a late climb to the final transfer. Dylan Pemberton from Oregon raced to 2nd only to get tangled up with Jeremy Andreason and Tyler Taylor. Andreason rolled onto his side but finished the race. Dana Evans crossed in fifth, but was penalized back to 7th behind Andreason and Nick Larsen for a jump start. Moore and Larson had the front row for the 20 lap A Main and the event got off to a wild start as Jonny Lentz got forced into the front fence. He flipped spectacularly, but escaped unhurt. The race had started one kart short as Stornetta pulled off before the initial green flag. Larson took a quick lead over Moore, Pruitt, Keheley and Adams. Keheley grabbed third from Pruitt on lap 4 and a tangle between Mittry and Tim Haylett forced a yellow flag. Adams and Reddick both passed Pruitt for the 4-5 slots on lap 8, but Pruitt regained fifth on lap 9. Copeland stalled for the last yellow flag on lap 15. Pruitt was called for a jump start as he took fourth from Adams on this restart. Larson led all the way for the win ahead of Moore, Keheley, Adams and Garry Burdick. The top two from each heat made up the Dash for Cash and they drew for their starting order. Edens and Majdic drew the front row ahead of Hopkins, Allison, K Bell and Tellstrom. Edens won the pole for the feature by capturing the Garth Moore Insurance sponsored dash over Majdic, Allison and Hopkins. Everyone started in the 20 lap feature that was slowed just twice by yellow flags. Majdic raced in front of Edens on the opening lap and Allison settled into third over Tellstrom and Hopkins. A tangle between Baker and Pace forced a lap 2 caution. Tellstrom gained third on this restart and Edens made his winning pass in turn 4 on lap 9. Tellstrom worked lapped traffic to take second from Majdic on lap 11. Allison raced into third on lap 15. The final yellow fell on lap 19 as Chance Carrell, Jacob Bell, Lakeport champion Cameron Bartlett and Richie Carrel tangled in turn 4. Edens hung on through the one lap restart for the feature win. Johnston’s kart won’t run in time trials, relegating him to 25th quick and that forced him to come from the back in heat 1. David Tarter won heat 2 over Michael Helwig and Austin VanKeuren. Daniel Becker won the small B Main over Chad Widener and Scott Burgess. B Miller, Tarter, Johnston and M Helwig started in front of the six dash karts in the 23 kart A main. Both Becker and Jerry Johnson were out before a lap was scored. B Miller led the first six rounds of the A Main before Johnston took over. Johnston was fighting engine problems and he got caught up in a lap 13 incident to hand the top spot back to B Miller. B Miller got his second win of 2005 as he paced the final 8 laps. He finished one second in front of Wolf. Wolf had taken third from Tarter on lap 7 and he moved into second with the Johnston departure. T McCain took third from Tarter on lap 15 and finished there ahead of Krueger, Josh Zander, Tarter, A J Kerns, Justin Grant and Aaron Colburn. Johnston turned the quickest lap in the feature at 11.338, but B Miller was just a tick behind at 11.346. Krueger had the third best lap at 11.448. Johnston opened the night with just a four point lead on Grant, whose kart also would not run in time trials.
Mason Moore was quickest of the 28 Open Intermediates with a 11.810 clocking. Bloom ran 11.887 and Dillon Silverman was third at 12.039. Kyle Johnson won the pole for the feature with his victory in the first heat over female racer Alissa Geving and Justin Grant, who was subbing for Colby Copeland. Sweeney made it an all Placerville front row in the feature as he won heat 2 in front of Mariposa’s Josh Keheley and Michael Forslund. Leana Kenyon won the B Main ahead of Nick Larsen and Al Varricchio. K Johnson led the first 7 laps of the 20 lap feature before Sweeney took over. Sweeney led the rest of the way. Bloom followed Sweeney around K Johnson on lap 8 and was in second the rest of the way. Sweeney was only a half second in front of Bloom at the checkered flag and another half second ahead of the photo finish between Larson and Southers for third. Larson had to come from 10th starting, but he took third from K Johnson on lap 11 and finished there. Southers was fourth ahead of Moore, K Johnson, Silverman, J Grant, Kenyon and Brandyn Donenfeld. Sweeney easily had the quickest lap in the feature at 11.465. Larson started the night 21 points in front of Bloom and 31 ahead of Moore.

Ryan Everson joined him on the front row by winning heat 2 in front of Travis Stopplemon and Ian Jones. The first ten laps of the 20 lap feature was an entertaining duel between Combs and Everson. Combs led three laps, Everson one and then Combs was back out front until he broke a chain on lap 9. Everson broke on lap 11 and it was 11th starting Keeter out front for the rest of the race. B Jones took second from Stopplemon on lap 14 and finished there. Keeter had a wide three second lead at the checkered flag. Stopplemon faded back to a fifth behind Gaines and Morton. Dennis Clark was sixth ahead of Karl Pavlik Jr and Rick Arnett. Keeter was the only kart to break into the 11’s in the feature as he ran a 11.893. Everson had an 12.162 and Combs a 12.281. Gaines and Keeter were tied for the point lead going into the night, 15 in front of Combs and 16 ahead of Everson.
The Intermediate division combines 250s and 125s in 2005 and time trial expert Larson paced a 28 kart field with a 12.043 lap. Moore was just a tick back at 12.124 and Silverman ran a 12.132. Max Adams, Cole Peard and Kenny Allen also made the dash. Quincy’s Peard won the dash from the front row ahead of Allen and Moore. He gained fifth on lap 11 and passed both Reddick and Allen to take over third on lap 17. Reddick finished fourth ahead of Allen, G Burdick, Peard, Silverman and Moore. Lentz clicked off the quickest feature lap at 11.720, Larson had a 11.807 and winner Bruckenstein an 11.895. Larson is also the point leader in this class as he started the night 34 points ahead of Moore and 72 in front of Bruckenstein.
Double division racer Edens led 11 Pro Box Stocks with a 13.273 qualifying run. Casey McClain ran 13.309 and Jake Morgan a 13.539. Cody Grant, Tyrell Nelson and Brittany Wilcox also made the dash. McClain beat Edens and Morgan in the dash. Aaron Bundy won the lone heat race over Peter Shepherd and Tyler Donenfeld. Edens and McClain had opened the night tied for the division point lead, 40 ahead of Wilcox. McClain had the lead on the opening lap of their 20 lap feature and was never headed. Morgan jumped from 4th to 2nd on lap 2 and Edens slowly worked his way to 4th on lap 8. Edens took third from T Nelson on lap 16 and chased McClain and Morgan to the checkered flag. McClain was two seconds in front of Morgan and 4.5 seconds ahead of Edens. Seven karts finished on the lead lap with Wilcox fourth ahead of T Nelson, C Grant and Shepherd. Reddick was quickest of 22 Box Stocks at 13.311 and McClain ranked second with his 13.323. Point leader T Seavey was third at 13.348 and Shane Hopkins, Lain Baker and Edens rounded out the dash field. Edens captured the dash from the pole ahead of T Seavey and McClain. T Seavey held an 8 point lead on McClain starting the night and Reddick was only 12 points out of first. Fourth ranked Edens was 22 points back of the leader. Seventh quick Cameron Bartlett was penalized for having transponder problems in time trials and came from the rear to win heat 1 over Austin Pace and David Lee. Logan Seavey won heat 2 over Katina Baker and Mallorie McGahan. Reilly Gillingwater won a small B Main in front of Randy Schluter and Tyler Barnes. Bartlett’s penalty also forced him to come from the rear in the 20 lap feature. L Seavey led the first 13 laps from the front row before his older brother T Seavey took over. Bartlett came from the back to third in 8 laps, but lost third to Reddick on lap 11. Reddick grabbed second from L Seavey on lap 14 and finished there, just a half second behind winner T Seavey. Bartlett got around L Seavey on lap 18 to finish third. L Seavey salvaged fourth and Gillingwater also put on a passing clinic as he battled to fifth ahead of Edens, David Lee, Bryce Acquistapace and Devin Lee. L Seavey had the quickest lap in the feature at 13.020 and T Seavey had a 13.109. Reddick ran 13.122 and Edens clicked off a 13.095. McClain went out on lap 15 after racing as high as third. Beattie, Larson and Reddick Win Features at DuQuoin
1-22-05 DuQuoin, IL. North Carolina's Kyle Beattie edged Iowa's Nick DeMoss in a photo finish to win the Outlaw Dirt Kart 500cc feature at the Southern Illinois Center in DuQuoin Saturday night. DeMoss, who has won twice this winter at Sedalia, MO., started on the pole and led the first nineteen and three quarter laps of the twenty lap affair on a racetrack where passing was at a premium. DeMoss had built up a sizable lead before entering lapped traffic. Beattie began to pressure DeMoss the last four circuits and went to the outside of DeMoss exiting the final turn, winning the drag race to the finish on the 1/7th mile oval by mere inches. Beattie and DeMoss were followed by Missouri drivers Gary French, Carl Brown, Eric White, Jeff Taylor, Vance Jenkins and Kyle Bellm. Iowans Alan Ambers and Tony Schilling rounded out the top ten. Beattie was driving for California's Clarence Reddick, who also fielded cars in the 125/250cc and "junior" divisions for Reddick's son Tyler.
The "California Wild Child", twelve year old Kyle Larson, won his eighty-fourth career feature by capturing the 20 lap 125/250cc feature in easy fashion over fellow Californians Tyler Reddick and Max Adams. The wire-to-wire win eased Larson's frustration from falling out of the 500cc feature prior to the start of the race with a flat tire.
Nine-year-old Tyler Reddick picked up the "junior" or "box stock" feature by outdistancing Devon Huff, Max Adams, Laney Feight and James Ambers.
A total of forty-four Outlaw Dirt Karts competed in the three divisions, including twenty four in the 500cc division, nine in the 125/250cc division and eleven in the Junior division. States represented were Iowa, Missouri, California, North Carolina and Arkansas.
